A Tuesday after noon hunt turned tragic for a 36 year old SE Indiana man while quail hunting with his 72 year old father near Suman/Manchester Indiana .
It seems the dog was on point and unknown to the 72 yr old father from Cincinatti , his 36 year old son had broken from the line and was forward of the group . As the birds flush the man swung on the crossing bird and shot his son who was also swinging on the crossing bird . The 36 year old man took a direct hit to the chest , and dispite efforts to revive him died from those injuries .
Interviews with the Guide/dog handler confirm that this was but another tragic accident ...

Any hunting accident which results in death is a tragedy, but I cannot conceive of the pain a father would endure having shot his own son...
It's a reminder to all of us to be vigilent at all times while in the field and keep track of our hunting partner's location and be sure of safety of the shot before it is taken...

Hey Jim, you know how I feel about hunting "accidents".
There aren't any hunting accidents. Someone broke a safety rule. It may seem cold to put it that way but it's a fact.
That said the father has my deepest sympathies for the loss of his son.
