Long story short, when we started our remodel, one of the contractors messed up and he was fired. I threw this small Heatilator in where we wanted supplemental heat source. I am thinking about putting a wood burner/stove in here. I believe that there are stoves that I can put 6" from the wall(being made of the right material) the stove also needs an extra shield also I believe. Must be set on a"mantel". This room is on the WNW side of the house with 6'xalmost 4' windows, so it catches some harsh wind. I hate to tear out the existing fireplace if the stove is going to stick out as far as what is now there. I realize though that something more effecient could heat better and make my wood cuttting time "worth" more. This room is open to another room/kitchen/eating area, total sq. ft is around 900. I am looking at a US stove that is rated for 1800sq. ft. Solohunter

How do you like the 2-cheek seat on the exrecise bike?
Nice fire place. I like the white tile finish.

Yea that is pretty sharp! I like the looks of it.
Are you thinking of an insert, or replacing the entire fireplace with a stove?

Solo - If you are going to the deer expo this weekend, time it so you can go to Duncans Fireplace supply in Indy. They have everything you need, are very knowlegable and can probably tell you everything you need to know to make that switch. Try to talk to Steve Duncan if he is available. You might call beforehand. I have bought all of the stainless steel flue systems and components for two woodstoves at this place in the last two years. Was just there two weeks ago buying components to install one in my trophy room.
They are located on west 38th Street (same street as fairgrounds) in a plaza on north side of street, at High School Road, about one block east of 465.
You can find odds and ends at various Lowes, Home Depot, etc., but this place specializes in woodstoves and has it all.

Thanks Steiny, my wife actually did the tile. I am yanking it all out. It will give us some more room and better heat. My main concern is matching the flue on a stove to the existing flue, which is 6"SS which has the galvanized outer "shell". I got the firebox and all parts from Lowes'. i was not really wanting to pull it out(I got enough to do),but I think in the long run it will be better. Solohunter

You are probably OK with that 6" flue. 6" And 8" are the standard woodstove sizes, most are 6". There are all kind of fittings available to make transitions. Take some photos, measurements, etc. and go see Steve @ Duncans.
