Since Spike has stated time and again that the majority of sportsmen support high fenced hunting (game preserves) for white-tailed deer and the like, I thought I'd run a non-scientific poll to test his theory. Since the vast majority of users on this site are hunters, I'd like to see where the majority stands.

To me the fun in hunting is sitting in a treestand and knowing that you may or may not see anything when you go out there. I love the fact that I can see a nice buck then later have nieghbors talk about this amazing buck and knowing that it is the same one that I have been seeing. High Fenced Hunting takes the sport out of hunting in my opinion. Sure it is neat to see these TV shows where a guy passes on 5 monster 10 pt. bucks to shoot the 14pt. that is running with them. Come on now! If you are going to take the time to hunt then atleast show a little effort. Nothing like hunting a caged animal right??

Folks at the library started voting too.

You'll get several people that will check the "yes" button, but rarely will they type a word on the thread. The ones that do respond normally it will be their 1st or 2nd post on the website, and you'll never see them again.

NO. I think farming whitetail for antlers, breeding, research, urine is ok, as LONG as it is humane and they are well taken care of and monitored for CWD. I realize there is not a live test for CWD(Ibelieve), but if there is a doubt the animal should be killed and tested. Solohunter

One day, maybe we will be able to go to Kroger's and beat one over the head with a big mallet while it is cooped up in the freezer room. Now, there's a hunter's DREAM, ?

I just got back from Africa where all the hunting that is left is behind a high fence. No one over there can afford it. They are in awe that we in America can step out our back door and go hunting. The guides and white hunters I spoke to were all in agreement that the high fences were all that they have ever known but if they had the choice they would rather have our system and no fences at all. It's all about the money. I think that says it all right there. No high fences.

That is not quite correct Jack. Not all the hunting in Africa is behind a fence, though most of it in the Republic of South Africa is. You are correct about it being a money issue though. It has to be, Africa is very, very poor and for the average African the native wildlife is nothing more than a threat to their survival. Because of this poaching has eliminated most wildlife in areas where they are not protected by fences or Game Scouts, funded by safari hunting. Without the money from hunters and tourists providing a tangible value for the wildlife, that wildlife would cease to exist outside of a zoo.

Let me correct anyone out there before this gets too far. I did not go to Africa to hunt. I went to Africa to see it before it is all gone. I accomplished that. I only visited South Africa (and Swaziland but that's a whole nother story) so my knowledge of Africa is limited only to that country. I have no pictures of dead animals behind a fence only live ones behind a fence.
