Is it just me, or does it seem like hardly anyone carries any cash on themselves anymore?
Young guys at work seem like they never have cash enough on them to go out to lunch or grab a beer after work without hitting the cash machine first. Young man pulls into the gas station ahead of me the other morning. I grab my coffee and am behind him at the register, and he buys a donut with his card. The dude was driving a $20,000 truck but didn't have $0.50 for a donut!
I don't get it. They drive nice rides, live in nice houses, take nice vacations, and otherwise seem to do O.K., but live in a cashless world. Everything goes on the plastic.
Don't know about you guys, but I feel naked without a pocket full of cash. I use plastic for things such as plane tickets, motels, mail order, etc. when necessary, but that's about it. I think it just feels right to pay with cash, plus you don't have another bill coming to the house.

I had to count it, but I have a little more than 800.00 today in pocket.
I like the deals that I can get with cash. I have bought several guns from guys that need some cash, the best was a Colt python stainless for 300.00
I still use my debit card alot too, I dont like to go in the gas station to pay for gas,or deal with cashiers at stores that has self check out.
Summer time I carry more than the winter time.

Since the place where I work isn't exactly in the high rent district I seldom carry cash anymore , most times I use my debit card for everyday purchases . I do keep a couple of dollars on me for smaller purchases like lotto tickets or an occasional loaf of bread , but rarely more than 4 or 5 bucks .

Rarely use cash. But do always have some for the $5-$10 things. Gee can you still get something for that?

$20K truck shouldn't imply they have cash, I know too many that have nice vehicles, house, vacation, add whatever you want to the list, but live paycheck to paycheck with all the bank and credit card loans. Shoot when I was in college, never had a full time job a credit card gave me an unbelievable amount of credit to me.
We rarely use a credit card anymore, don't have a debit card, do pay with a check or cash most of the time but don't really carry much cash ever. It's hard to spend if you don't have it on you!

In all reality, we are not all that far away from a cashless sociaty.
We do the direct deposit thing and have been doing it for several years. We use a debit card for just about anything we purchase....I maybe go through $20.00 in paper money each week.
Heck, this year they even took the paper money out of the put & take bird hunts.....you pay online before you get there.
With all the folks useing plastic now days....it sure makes it difficult to get any "tax free" jobs.

Please remember, the average American is about $8,000 in credit card debt. I carry cash and pay with cash only using my credit card when ordering items over the internet or if the total exceeds $75. I can proudly state that I have never been in debt.

i prefer "debit" cards................. credit cards = spending money you dont have. debit cards = quick transaction for money you DO have. sometimes it's easier to swipe. can monitor spending that way..........and an automatic deduction out of account. if i happened to get mugged, robbed, and a black eye...............then i also have theft protection ? ? ? havent had a credit card in a very long time................dont intend on having one either ! camoham

I carry about $20 most days. I can proudly say that I've always been in debt and probably always will be. :-(

Just enough cash for the week's planned activities.
Plastic is for emergencies, or trips which are paid back ASAP. Hopefully within the billing cycle due date. Most of our purchases are cash / check.
As for debt, minimal. My wife & I grew up hard & started out with nothing. Every day was a struggle in the beginning, and I never want to be that low on the food chain again. We worked long & hard for our somewhat comfortable lifestyle, but we are not wealthy by any means. If we could not justify a purchase, we would just dream & wait until we could.

I bet 95% of the US population can't make a stone tool or start a fire without matches either. Yet we still survive!

Maybe I'm nuts, but I think it's plumb wrong to put a fifty cent donut on your plastic, and any self respecting working man ought to carry a few bucks in his pocket to buy lunch, a few beers after work, or whatever. What the heck is the point in going to work every day, if you're not ever going to have a little of that hard earned cash in your pocket.
Just my two cents.

I'll be honest...I don't carry much cash. Sure, I'd have enough for a doughnut or a beer after work. But I just don't care to carry around hundreds of dollars in cash.
I put most my purchases on my CABELAS card! ;D Gas, lunches, attire, etc. (Gotta love the points!)
The one thing I'll EMPHATICALLY say though is I pay it off EVERY MONTH! I REFUSE to pay someone extra interest on my hard earned money. Too many people today, especially the younger generations rely on a credit card as a crutch. I simply use it as a tool, and exercise DISCIPLINE when using it.
As someone else mentioned...one of the few times I'll carry large amounts of cash is when buying retail on larger items where negotiating may come in to play.
