Lighting fireworks could soon be legal in Indiana. February 4, 2006 If a fireworks bill that passed the House this week makes it through the Senate and into law this session, you will then be able to blow off a finger, legally, in Indiana. Jeers to that. We understand that legislators are trying to fix a bad situation. Under current law, you can purchase dangerous fireworks in Indiana but you must promise to take them out of state or to a designated site for setting them off. Of course, most people wink at the law, as they take their Indiana-purchased fireworks home, or wherever else they want to celebrate the Fourth of July. They know that there are too many of them setting off fireworks for the police to ever hope to stop them. The proposed law would allow you to set off fireworks on your own property or the property of a friend who consents. It would take the pressure off authorities and would eliminate the hypocrisy of current law. But still, at the end of the day, we are left with the reason some explosive devices were first deemed illegal in Indiana. They are dangerous. You could still injure yourself or set your neighbor's house on fire. But, hey, you wouldn't be breaking the law anymore.... Yet, they won't allow legal Deer Hunters the use of Pistol cartridge firing rifles here in Indiana! More people are injured by the use of fireworks than by firearms used in hunting.

Some laws don't make sense when you first hear about them , but I'm not surprised by this one . It's completely impossible to police several million peole shooting off fireworks regardless of where they buy them . I'd like to see a provision for a fireworks discharge permit included into this bill , then they'd at least generate some much needed revenue .

I don't know what rifles have to do with fireworks? I think the majority does not want a law against fireworks. Just like when they outlawed booze. No one wanted the law and everyone just ignored it and drank it up.

No one wanted the law and everyone just ignored it and drank it up. Those fireworks, which are very dangerious, come from Red China. They use this money to fund their military, which could be used against us and elsewhere. If we should have a DRY summer just think what the potential for brush fires will be!

Kevin1, What they could do is Ban the sale & distribution of fireworks here in Indiana. If none are locally available then fewer will be setting them off making it easier for the police to arrest those who break the law.

While we are banning dangerous stuff, lets go ahead and get guns, knives, cars, sharp sticks and rocks on the list.
We as a society really dont need the goverment to protect us....unless you have a really low IQ.

That's already been tried , which is why it's now legal to sell them here . Banning things almost always creates a bootleg market for them , and the cops would still be chasing them down no matter what . Better to have them legal , taxed , and overseen in some way . An expensive permit issued by the local fire marshall would do more to kill demand for them by the average Joe than any law and provide a way for the cops to keep track of who has them . Most people shoot them off near the 4th of July anyway , take away the incentive and they'll go away all by themselves .

Kevin, There is simply too many liberal judges in Indiana to inforce this fireworks thing. The companies that sell these dangerious items line the pocket of our local & State lawmakers inorder to sell them. Right now, there is a lot of people firing them off, but if it becomes legal there will be much more people shooting them off and more accidents. If we have a dry summer I hate to think what the fire situation will be.

DRS.......dude, I bet you are the life of the party. Always so positive! bsutravis, It makes me very sad to post such negative things, but the fact remaing they (negative things) do exists. FYI I am known to be a very positive person, by my firends. I just see thing hapening and try to point them out so people will start thinking and maybe offer solutions. We don't live in normal times.

Guess it all depends on your def. of normal.
I can bet your's and a few of ours is completely different. Every generation has had their share of dificult times and poor decisions. As well many have made amazing things happen, but there will always be the people who focus on the negative.
Life is too short to be upset and depressed all the time. If you feel there are better days ahead someplace else, do yourself a favor and go there immediately.
