"ESPN Outdoors Asks: At what age should children begin hunting?" Of the four responses: 8-10, 11-13, 14-16, or never. This poll could be mentioned on Sportscenter tonight, as most questions of the day are. Here is the link. Bottom right hand side.. espn.go.com/outdoors/index.html

Every kid is different. Some are very mature for their age. If your kid wants to go, and you think he/she is ready, take them. A hunter's ed course would be a good start.

My 5 year old grandson desparately wants to go with me , but his Daddy won't allow it until he's at least 8 . Personally , if it were something like squirrel or rabbit hunting I think that he could hack it . The long waits common to deer hunting would be a bit much for him .

its a good idea to let the youngters just tag a long while scouting or just take a nature hike, just to see if there is an interest in the outdoors, just keep it short, and bring some goodies along. as far as going hunting with harvest in mind, this will take many short trips , a experience hunter is needed, other ideas are going to the sport and travel show in march, sporting goods stores, plus a hunter education class ,then back to the woooooods. just to see if the interests is still there, a lot of steps and enjoyment, to be a outdoorsman and outdoorswomen. short doses is the key. then just ask "do you want to go" . good luck turkey scout..

As soon as they are mature enough "in their parents opinion" & after successfully completing the Hunter's Safety Course. Each child is different when it comes to this issue.
