This was the big buck that was killed in Decatur county last season. Apparantely the guy was drinking mountain dew and eating peanuts when the big boy showed up.

Definitely a nice deer. Not sure why they felt the need to make sure everyone knew it was a 20ga though. 20 will take down a deer as fast as a 12.

Recently there was a debate over the use of 20 gauge slug to kill deer...i.e, the contrary was that it was not enough to take a deer. I for one, totally disagree. I have killed many deer with a 20 gauge single shot when I was young. I would rather use that than a rifle..imo...its shot placement. FYI...see the new proposed bill re: rifles? Lyman

The 20 guage is MORE than adequate for taking deer sized animals. Even big bruisers like this one.
Now the arguement would really come into play with the lowly .410...

.....What's that noise outside your window, ...whats that shadow on the blind?......Somewhere a clock strikes midnight.. and a chill runs down my spine.......No one's gonna warn ya, ..no one's gonna yell attack,....I give my left arm.. to get a shot at a buck like that!.......I couldn't resist . I took several deer with a 20 ga. The only reason I went to a 12 was because they had a rifled barrels and I could not get one for my Ithaca. So I bought a Mossberg 12 with a rifled barrel. It was and still is a great gun although I usually use a Knight now.

I don't know about the .410 thing. My son (who's now 9) killed his first buck with a .410 2 years ago at the age of 7. The 20 gauge was still too strong for him then. He made a perfect lung shot a 45 yards. The buck only ran 20 yards before piling up in a creek. I was however there with my muzzleloader in case.
