Text for the Day -- Psalm 144:1-4, 9-10 ---------- Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; my rock and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues the peoples under me.
O LORD, what are human beings that you regard them, or mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a passing shadow.
I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play to you, the one who gives victory to kings, who rescues his servant David.
Devotional ---------- David prays for victory over his enemies. He has a deep sense of dependency on God for preparation and winning. He adds a vow to his request in a promise to sing a "new song" to God when victory comes. A "new song" is a creative and fresh response to God's mighty deeds. David understands the importance of gratitude as the proper response to God's grace-filled actions on his behalf.
Prayer ........... Help me see your grace for my life, Lord, and respond with a fresh song of praise. Amen
