Just ordered the Dead Air primal. I’ve heard the wait times are shorter, so we will see! Probably won’t be here in time for deer, but winter coyotes might get the first test.

Your first?
If it is you’ll enjoy it. I love hearing the bullet thump the critter over the report of the gun. This year will be my first time using one for deer but got plenty of time behind one for squirrels and even a couple of coyotes. They’re fun.

I have the “beginner can” dead Air mask, and I absolutely love it. It threads right on to every 22 I have and it really does make them movie quiet when you’re shooting subs and shorts. This will be my first big boy though. Ordering a ruger american in 22-250 next Monday when Cabela’s has their next club member discount. I like that I can buy a couple adapters and use this one on just about everything. I have a shopping cart full of threaded pistol barrels now too 😂

Shooting subs (depending on caliber and can) can make some guns movie quiet. I’m not saying I’ve knocked squirrels out of my neighbors tree with the dead air mask on my heavy barrel 22, but I’m also not not saying it 😂

Yup. For my .22 lr I use a TBAC .22 takedown and CCI Suppressors for squirrels. When you pop a squirrel, the impact of the bullet hitting is louder than the gun going off. Other squirrels around mostly just look around like what just happened?

I've been using them for years now out west shooting prairie dogs. 6 to 8 hours a day is so much more enjoyable. Ears don't hurt from muffs or itch from ear plugs. Plus, you can talk normally with your shooting buddy and not always saying, "WHAT?" The POP is even louder, too.
Used it for deer hunting as well. Very nice to hear the whack when it hits.

I shot the .308 today to verify my loads. 195g Hornady Sub-X going 1013 fps. VERY quiet. 5.5" low at 50 yds, (3 mil dots low), 19" low at 100 yds (top of duplex post). 25 yds it's still 3 mil dots low.
130g Barnes TTSX going close to 3200 fps. Zero'd @ 100, group size was about 0.020" wide and 0.150" tall. At 200 yds it's 1 5/8" low. If I don't get a deer it's definitely NOT the gun's fault.
Supersonic is still quiet compared to no can, and subsonic is barely noticeable - the bullet hitting the backstop is louder than it leaving the barrel. For a factory rifle I am really impressed at how well it shoots.

What can you got for your .308? I’ve got almost the same exact loads for mine.

In your subsonic load what powder you using? I’m currently using Trail Boss but have higher ES’s and it’s supposed to be quite nasty for the can. I’m gonna do a better load next year and use a cleaner powder and try the Maker sub bullets.

The barrel has a slower twist and I couldn't get anything from Lehigh Bullets to stabilize. I have 2, maybe 3 boxes of the Sub-X bullets, so I'll keep using them. I figure that if the can gets that dirty, I'll put it in the Ultrasonic Cleaner. My can has changeable end caps so I can look inside a little.

Do you have any idea what the quietest can is on the market for a .30 caliber? I have a friend that will be jumping into the shhh game shortly.

I think TBAC. Ultra 9 in .30 would be great I have the 338 ultra gen 2, it actually is a little quieter than the ultra 9 but it’s twice the price.

Is there any place that shows dB readings of the different cans? Yeah, I know all about the perceived variables but having some numbers to look at would be nice. For instance, my .22lr can is quiet. When I showed to to a friend that had a different one, he was not happy that his wasn't near as quiet. He specifically asked the gun shop for a quiet one and that's now what they recommended.

Esshup, Is this what you are looking for ? Yes something like that but with more db info. That article only covered the Thunder Beast Mangus line with noise levels.
