Near TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN there is long peninsula that runs for approx.30 miles out into Lake Michigan it's called Leelanau and running up the middle is a long beautiful lake by the same name. This lake spills over a dam into Lake Michigan at a place known as FISH TOWN which is home to Carlson's Fishing company which nets fish from Lake Michigan. There is a long spillway running from the dam out to open waters and this spillway is an attraction to Salmon and Trout. There is a restaurant built right up against the spillway that has underwater cameras so that while your enjoying your meal you can watch the fish trying to migrate up the dam.
The waters are so crystal clear you can see to the bottom approx. 10' deep.
While we were there a young man climbed down to a divider wall on the spillway and was standing on a small divider wall casting into the pool of fish and he hooked one.
There was a crowd of about 40+ folks watching him and I thought there is no way he will land this KING SALMON he had on BUT I WAS WRONG!
This young man slid down into the spillway waded across climbed up concrete wall and got up to a balcony of the old motel that is built into other side of the spillway where he had a homemade looong handled net and after about a 25 min. battle he was able to land a King Salmon weighing approx.12-15 pounds.
The crowd went wild cheering and applauding his accomplishment and to top it off he held the fish over his head. kissed it and threw it back to fight another day.

This is a view from the restaurant looking down the spillway with the fishing net boats in the background, note that dark spot in the water is a Salmon.

This is the young man who hooked the salmon working his way across the spillway and then he climbed up that concrete wall to a small balcony where he continued his fight. That divider wall is where he started from that's his jacket on that wall.

The fish that is pointing to the right is the fish he is fighting. This was so cool to watch this event play out.

That's a neat place. My son in law grew up in Leland, had about 30 kids in his HS class.
