October 8th I haven't hunted yet. Sitting out on my picnic table with absolutely ZERO wind, beautiful afternoon. I might sneak out on some state ground or possibly an evening hunt here on the farm Thursday or Friday. I DESPERATELY want to go, but experience has taught me that at least as many (probably way more) big bucks are educated than killed right now. The time is coming...

For over 20 years, I was out there from October 1 on and hunted pretty much every day of early archery season. And, yes, I did kill deer in early October, including my best archery buck (164" gross) on October 6. But, now I stay out of the woods until at least Halloween. I no longer try to fill as many tags as possible. In fact, I'm pretty much a buck-only hunter 99% of the time anymore. I went from a 20-year average of four deer a year to not shooting any some seasons. If I take a doe, it'll probably be firearms or muzzleloader season. I have shot opportunities on dozens of deer each season even with my self-imposed limited time afield, but I just don't have the desire to kill like I used to.

Me as well. Just got gear hung out tonight. Buddy called this afternoon, and he killed a very nice 160 class buck this morning. . Finishing up hay this week, and then start hitting the woods.

Just got four more stands ready and set a couple cameras.
Still have some venison in the freezer and don't have much interest in anything but a big buck, so I'm being patient also and not hunting yet. When I do hunt in October before Halloween it's typically evening only. Too easy to blow them out walking in pre dawn for morning hunts.

I hold off until around the 28th Halloween time. Plus we already had a good freeze and no tick or bug concerns. I have 4 stands and I try not to wear them out before the 28th. I try to hunt a stand 1 day and then give it a week off.

Going to be hard not to hunt this cold front next week. It’s looking really good.

I'm working 6 days a week and I only have 3 vacation days left to use. I'd like to use 2 of them for hunting. Should I take one next week on the coldest day? Or should I wait until the first week of November to use them? I'm not sure what's the best route to go.

This^^^ unless you got a good one patterned The only buck I have patterned is a little fork horn that walks through the front yard. I don't even have a camera out yet this season.

Definitely not a bad time to be out with this cold front coming though. Have seen some good bucks during October cold fronts in the past.

Tomorrow will be a good day to hunt. Right after a good cold front. I'm hoping another one later this month.
