The other day I started to jack up the corner of my Suburban and my old 2 ton Sears floor jack would not lift it. It would not even jack me up and when I quit pumping it slowly dropped down. I went to Harbor Freight and as I was checking out their stock I started to think about how the jack works. It seemed to me that there must be a compromised or bad seal, O-ring, ball check, etc. I decided to hold on a purchase since I can borrow my sons floor jack for now. I believe I bought this in 1981 at the Sears in Michigan City Marquette Mall. It is over 40 years old and I've never done a thing to it. I'll check out some YouTube videos. Meantime, I'd be open to thoughts or feedback.

As long as the cylinder is not scored you should be able to find seals. IF you can get the cap off. McMaster-Carr may have them. Or it could be the pump. Some of those jacks were not made to be fixed.

Same thing happened to Dad's Sears floor jack. He was able to repair it, but the fix only lasted a year for some reason. With the new floor jacks being lighter lower to the ground and coming up way more per stroke when there is no load on it, my vote is go get a new one.......

You got your monies worth out of that heavy old jack. Buy yourself a new light weight Jack or two. I have one in my pickup and one on my garage. If I should happen to get a flat I don't intend to be crawling around under my truck with the factory supplied bottle jack.

Call me goofy but I guess I have this issue with simply dumping anything that’s old. I just gotta see if I can make it work again!🤪
