Per the DNR website: "Indiana DNR has passed a rule prohibiting white-tailed deer from being moved from the CWD Positive Area (LaGrange, Steuben, DeKalb, and Noble counties) for any purpose."
Question: does this mean a legally killed deer cannot be moved from one county to another for processing?
I hunt in Steuben County but I live in DeKalb County. My deer processor is in Elkhart County. Does this new rule mean I can't take a deer I killed in Steuben County to my processor in Elkhart County?
Can a killed deer be moved between counties within the CWD positive area or does it have to stay in the county it was killed in?

The rule pertaining to the "prohibiting white-tailed deer removal" from CWD positive areas only pertains to live deer. This was to prevent the removal of fawns or sick deer from being transported from those areas to prevent the further spread of CWD in uncontaminated areas.
Can a legally killed deer be moved from one of those counties for processing, "YES". Can a harvested/killed deer be moved between counties within the CWD positive areas, "YES". Does it have remain in the county it was harvested in, "NO".
If you would like to have your deer tested for CWD, you can go to the DNR website and see the complete list of Fish & Wildlife properties and taxidermists who will be set up to take samples. Deer processors are required to have proper disposal methods for processed deer carcasses which should mitigate any concern of spreading CWD.
