Well, a buddy and I took up the blood trail around noon. There was a ton of bright red blood for the first 60ish yards but ended up losing blood after a bit. Ended up combing the area. She was in a bed not more than 20 feet from us for about 15 minutes but we didn’t know she was there. All of a sudden, she jumped up, immediately fell down, got back up and then hobbled across the field before I could get another arrow in her… I feel like it’s amateur hour out here. Anyway, we saw where she went, found fresh blood and decided just to mark the last blood we saw and back out. Going to try picking it up later this evening. Hope I can recover her. Going to try everything I can. Sounds like she isn't going far. Keep us updated Tracked steady blood through the corn field last night and then into another woods. Lost blood after going in the woods about 20 yards. We grid searched the woods this morning and didn’t find anything else. Altogether we tracked blood for 960 yards. Horrible feeling having a deer suffer like that. I was thinking back through the shot… there’s nothing I could have done about her taking a quick 2 steps right as I shot, but I think I might have rushed the shot a little as well. Gotta just learn from it and make the next shot better because of it.

You can also put a bullet where you can't put an arrow, so tracking can be eliminated.

So as you know my boy got his first deer with a bow yesterday. Unfortunately I work second shift and was unable to be there. He called me on my break and said he had the deer cleaned and quatered, ready for me to pickup from his mom’s house. I felt a sense of accomplishment hearing that. He’s watched me and learned over the years and was able to do all of that by himself. I couldn’t be more proud of him and the young man he’s become.

To be able to see what you have instilled in your kids come to fruition is a beautiful thing.

Nice job being persistent and patient.

Congratulations to your son, Wadwinger22!
I took a nice walk this afternoon through the 140-acre forest that I hunt to check the four ladder stands I have set up there. All were rock solid, although the squirrels played havoc with the shooting rail foam sections. Lol! My vacation starts at 3:30 PM on November 1 and I'll have nine days to hunt. I'm looking forward to it.

To all those who are out in the deer woods, you're more dedicated than I. I wanted and had actually planned on hunting this afternoon. But, I just couldn't talk myself into it with the 80° temps.
Good luck everyone!

I consider November 4-8 to be the best days for buck sightings. Last year was the first time I ever took a vacation during deer season (this is my 29th deer season), and I plan to make it an annual event from here on out.
