I have tried a few different, cost effective, ear pros for shooting at the range and hunting.
When shooting at my home range, I'm usually by myself and don't really seem to have an issue and tend to like the cheaper end ear muffs.
However, while at the range at work, doing movement drills and on the firing line with others, I hate them. Mostly due to the fact that I can't tell the direction of the voices I'm hearing. I can plainly hear people talking but, no clue where. I run into the same issues hunting. I can hear turkeys gobbling well, deer walking, etc. but, no clue if they're right or left of me and I can't tell if they're 20 yards or 100 yards behind me. That noise confusion can overwhelm my senses and increases my anxiety.
I am sure a major part of this problem is in my opening sentence "cost effective". I never wanted to pay much for electronic ear protection. So, I'm sure I'm getting what I paid for.
I have, however, just stumbled upon the Axil 2.0 GS extreme. I have watched and have read several reviews on them and they seem to be doing a good job. They have wires and wireless options. I woukd most likely be interested in a wired option with a clip to help prevent losing them. I really don't want to lose a wireless ear pod in the river while waterfowl hunting. Lol!
Does anyone on here have experience with the Axil brand?
Thanks, Brandon.

I have had a pair of the wireless Bluetooth Axils for a few months now (after some dirtbag stole my 3m Peltor over the ears) . So far nothing but good things to say. We'll see how hunting season goes.

If you are talking about the "sound" feature, I would describe them more as omnidirectional.

Went to an IDPA shoot in Antwerp today and a guy there had a set of the AXTIL in the ear devices. He told me he felt it does a good job as long as you were close to the guns. He noticed with guns like the AR they did not seem to filter out as good as electronic muffs unless you were close.

I wore mine while goose hunting this morning. I gotta say, they were nice. I could hear all the conversations from the 7 other people I was with. I had no problem hearing the geese and picking out their locations and probable distance. However, when I using my goose call, I couldn't tell if I was doing well as it was cancelling that sound out. The shots were less than that if a hand clapp.
For the first outing with them, I was pleased.

I wore my Axil ear pros again this past Sunday. One of the guys I hunt with was using the Walker's game ear. He and I both have the same issue with not being able to hear ourselves calling. The remedy I came up with was to simply pop one of them out of my ear while I called. When the geese turned or seemed to lock up and come in, I'd shove it back in my ear.
The Bluetooth works really well and I again had no issues with hearing other guys conversations or the geese chatter. I was definitely able to pick up directional sounds also. As in, I knew if they were flying from behind, left or right of us.
I would for sure recommend these to anyone. Wireless versions are probably fine for most people. But, since I'm a bit clumsy, I prefer the wired version that I have been clipping to the back of my shirt. I especially recommend the wired version for those who hunt while standing in the river or other water ways.

I had 2 pair of the corded ones delivered this morning for Abbie and me to wear in the shooting house and at the range. That smokeless muzzleloader last year left my tinnitus a little worse I think.

Are these the ones you’re talking about? Is it battery or rechargeable?

Are these the ones you’re talking about? Is it battery or rechargeable? Yes, that looks like mine. I have the Extreme 2.0. They are rechargeable. Here's a couple pics of the box they came in.

That's the one.
Used mine yesterday helping a buddy get ready for an AZ muzzleloader elk hunt next month. Worked great and the amplification works great while still compressing the boom. I sat around on the couch after playing with the Bluetooth. That sound level can be set higher than it needs to be. I didn't take it all the way to the top before I decided the music was too loud.
I did find that they are more comfortable for me with the cord in front of my neck instead of behind.
Great purchase so far.
