While working a job in Ohio a few weeks ago, I stopped at an old feedmill. I had noticed an old 2 bottom John Deere plow sitting nearby and I inquired about it, thinking it might be a good match for my John Deere model B. The ole boy did not want to part with it or any of the other implements on his property. As farmboy chatter goes, we were soon talking everything from families to "Whereabouts" to hunting and fishing and so on. He happened to mention that he had an old rifle. That perked my ears up. So we did a low dollar deal on this Marlin model 780, 22 rifle. At first he couldn't find the magazine but he ended up calling me the next day as I was still working nearby. I have not shot the rifle yet. It seems the magazine spring is in bad shape as I can barely push the follower down. The bolt seems a bit nasty too. I'm gonna go through it with my grandson. He loves working on these projects as much as me and it's teaching him some lessons along the way. ![](https://i.imgur.com/t0LQKHB.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/ZMb7j5J.jpg)

The stock looks to be in good shape and I would imagine you'll have it up and running soon.

You’ll have it all shined up and running smoothly in no time. Nice find.

By the look of the stock, the inside won't be as bad as you think. I bet you will have it shooting in no time.
Now to get a squirrel or a limit of them with each of those old 22's that you've acquired!

I can usually find something cool at the 1500. I grew up with them and learned to shoot and hunt squirrels with them.

I cleaned the bolt. Disassembled the magazine and cleaned it, too. I'm not sure why I could not depress the follower previously. Nothing seemed wrong so I reassembled it and all was fine. I headed to my property and did a quick freehand shoot from ~20 yards. It's not the best group but it ran flawlessly. I would have had my grandson with me but he was at Golf Sectionals. Better he was there since he advances on to Regionals. I'll get him and his younger eyes out there another day. For now, I'm happy. First 5 shots:

I'm pretty sure you are aware of this, but if you want/need a new factory magazine they are available on eBay for $33 (including shipping) or sportsman's warehouse for $15 (when they have them in stock).
