Upon further examination there are 8 poults. Mom guards them and when it starts to rain she gathers them under her. I experimented with an idea of strip mowing a small meadow in my woods and so far it seems to be working.

My daughter and I have been seeing a single hen along the road. Quite often too. No poults yet.

Today has been turkey central around here, we had 4 hens and a very busy Tom in our yard all morning. After they left MAMA turkey showed up with the youngins in tow.

I am happy to report we have had 3 hens ( 1 with a beard about 5-6" long ) and 21 poults visiting the yard for a week now. The poults are close to the same size. The one hen is much taller than the other 2 by a good 6 inches. I suspect this is an old Momma hen and her 2 daughters and combined poults.

We still have the original hen but she only has 5 poults one was killed by a car, we don't know what happened to the other.
We also have a hen with 1 small poult and 2 other hens one of which is bearded and one that is quite a bit larger then the others, she appears to be the BOSS HEN because the others give her plenty of space when she comes around.
They come almost everyday and feed under our bird feeder in the sun flower seeds.
