See soaring hawks, slithering snakes and whopper live fish at the 2005 Indiana State Fair Natural Resources Building.
The famous and gigantic DNR wild fish aquariums, with new aquatic ecosystem dioramas, will once again be swimming with thousands of wild fish.
Hungry fairgoers can taste wild fish and game at the Taste of the Wild Cookout, at 11 a.m. Aug. 13. At the cookout, Hoosier sportsmen and women provide venison chili, steelhead trout, beaver barbecue, turtle soup and more.
O'Bannon Woods naturalist Jarrett Manek returns on Aug. 19 and 20, from Noon to 5 p.m., with his fair-favorite Snakes Alive! program.
At 5 p.m. Aug. 16, cute but serious DNR resource dogs show how they track poachers and find illegal game.
Bring your stone arrowheads, mysterious clay beads or pottery shards to the Natural Resources Building front porch for ID by state archeologists on Sat. Aug. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. DNR scientists will share what they know in a format similar to the popular PBS Antique Road Show, except no financial appraisals will be provided.
Savvy outdoorsy folk can stalk bargains on unique rustic furniture, outdoor wear, art, hiking sticks, jewelry, field guides and more at the earthy Mother Nature's Mercantile inside the air-conditioned DNR building.
Daily natural and history programs give parents a chance to take an educational breather with the kids. The Natural Resources Building is outside of the northwest corner of the State Fair horse track. Check out a DNR program during your state fair adventure.
