4 groups of geese hatched on the pond for you goose hunters.
Maybe have some Swans soon. She has never sat on the nest this long. Her and a goose had some relations. Maybe baby Swoose? Yes, it’s real thing.

I got 3 nesting at my house pond, plus both wood duck boxes have nests. SEVERAL nesting at my north grounds. They get so used to the dogs while Im out training. They dont even get off their nests when a dog runs by them. Pain in the ars after hatching, they get after the dogs if they get to close, not good on young inexperienced dogs.

You guys that like seeing geese on the ponds, here's some thoughts for you.
1) They will poop invasive species (underwater weed) seeds. That gets expensive when you have to use Sonar A.S. to treat them so you can treat them at the correct dosage without killing any native plants.
2) If you have a filamentous algae problem, the geese make it much worse. Each goose every day will poop enough nutrients to grow 115 pounds of filamentous algae. ONE DAY, ONE GOOSE.
With that said, we will be stocking Tilapia in ponds in the next 4 weeks to control filamentous algae. LMK if you want to do that as they sell out fast. Stocking rate is 40# per surface acre, right around $20/lb plus or minus depending on how many you need

I enjoy them (geese) tho they can be a pain. A big Red wiffle ball bat keeps them under control when they start charging while nesting. The bald eagles, red hawks, ospreys and any other animal that uses the pond are welcome. I’m just a caretaker for a short time. They will be there long after I’m gone.
