This is the first gun I ever owned. I took my first game, mostly squirrels and rabbits, with this shotgun as a kid in the 60's. My Grandpa gave it to me just before he passed. His father had given it to him. It's a Remington Model 11, mfr'd in 1920 per the serial number. In recent decades, I've also used it for upland birds, ducks and geese. But I've never taken a turkey with her. As far as I know, neither had my Grandpa nor his Dad even had an opportunity to hunt turkey with this boomstick! My grandson and I were discussing the upcoming season and we happened on the idea. It's fixed Modified choke. No doubt it will be sporting since I think I'll need to get the gobbler within 25 yards or so. I'll pattern some different loads and see what happens.

While not a Remington Hunting Public just did one on hunting with Grandpa's Browning. Those chokes were designed for the overshot wad loads. They shoot shotcup loads a lot tighter. youtu.be/_tOeQO_I_nA?si=Ubxl4yp8rCd2DMZ1

That's a nice gun. How do you know it's a HER? It’s a special knack I have! All my life, I’ve always called my “baby’s” Her and She! Guns, cars, motorcycles, etc and even canoes 🛶🤠 And I know it drives da duster crazy!

I don't know if they are still made, but Federal put out some turkey loads with a "flight control" wad, supposed to gain you one choke restriction. Also, just because there's no turkey on the ammo box doesn't mean you can't kill a turkey. I have some Browning BXD loads with a Pheasant on the box. 3", 1 5/8 oz. #5 shot at 1350 fps. That's a turkey load in my book. They pattern well for my gun. Much cheaper than turkey loads too.
About 30 years ago, when I just started turkey hunting I was talking with an older guy that had hunted turkeys since 1980 - the first season in NH. I asked about guns, he said "whatever you have will do". I asked about shells. He pointed to a bowl on the window ledge near the door. It was half-full with random shells, target loads, duck loads, etc. He said "I just get a handfull from that bowl on my way out the door. They all work at 20 yds".
Good luck with that gun HC.

^^^^ I agree about not needing "turkey" loads. Last bird I killed was shot with the 2 3/4" reloads that I use to shoot the clay bird games. 1 3/8 oz buffered #6 shot.

Life has mostly been work, work, work with a ton of travel throughout the midwest. But, I did happen to get out one late evening and one morning. Alas, no gobbler this year. So, Great Grandpa's shotgun will have to wait. I did have opportunities on any one of 5 different jakes. I called them to 25 or so yards. I just wasn't inclined to take one and I was having a ton of fun just watching them. This is the group from about 60 yards away. And then I was able to call a nice gobbler with a hen from about 200 yards away to about 70 yards. Eventually they ducked into the woods, to live another day. All in all it was a beautiful morning. This was as close as he strutted to me.

You did what you could with the time you had. It’ll happen with the ole gun eventually.

As long as you enjoyed yourself that's all that matters.
