My first goose hunt is going good so far. We got 4 down as of now. Geese flying all around us still. 5-6 dozen decoys out in a partially flooded corn field. The first group that came in was amazing. Just a few birds. We heard them getting closer but, the fog is so heavy, we couldn't hardly see them. Then, all of a sudden, we could hear their wings flapping and there they were! Dropping down straight in to the decoys!  |

Don't just breast them out....save the legs it's the best part of the goose.
I also save the hearts, livers and gizzards it great beginnings for a soup.

Nice work! What is your gun, choke, and ammo set up? Everything was borrowed this morning. I used a Winchester SX4 with a Carlson choke shooting 3" Boss 3" shot shells. |

Great work. Super jealous, been a while since I have had a good goose hunt It was exciting for me. The other guys were slightly disappointed but, they all are seasoned waterfowl hunters and had higher expectations. They were all super stoked when I shot my first one though. If I continue to get invites to hunt, I'll probably invest in my own layout blind and some decoys. Otherwise, I'm not certain I'm ready to make that big of an investment. |

If I continue to get invites to hunt, I'll probably invest in my own layout blind and some decoys. Otherwise, I'm not certain I'm ready to make that big of an investment. If you are in a good area, it opened a lot of opporoots for me. Not much competition relative to amount of birds in some areas. Farmers that want all deer and non-farm animals killed are easy to get permission. It gets harder the closer you get to big roosts. Get a few times in front of the same guy and he starts asking about deer hunting a spot. |
