Hello everyone,
Thanks for allowing me to join with you all! I come from the concrete jungle of Denver, Colorado where I worked as a tax accountant. Hunting was never really in my vocabulary, but an offset interest of mine….who wouldn’t want to skip paying outrageous prices for grocery store “chicken” mixed with fillers that I can’t pronounce and rib meat water and other various mystery liquids!
I unexpectedly uprooted here to Indiana to help the family with my mom (had a stroke) about a year ago, got my CCW, some range time, and I have decided to take up hunting while I’m at it. I have hunting rifles chambered in 30.06, 308, and now 350 Legend who have been safe queens. I need to change that and get some meat in the fridge! I’m in the northeastern sector of the state, where there’s not much public land but I’m going to do some scouting this summer and see what I can find. I don’t really have any idea what I’m looking for other than the tips I’ve picked up off of YouTube channels where everyone and their mother is a subject matter expert lol.
Anyways, thanks again for allowing me to join in the forum. I look forward to talking and contributing to the conversations with all of you.

Welcome to Hunting Indiana from Ari, In
Plenty of public land in NE Indiana. Mongo (aka Pidgeon River FWA) Tri-County FWA, Roush Lake FWA, Salamonie and Misinsinawa Reservoirs. There are also some smaller areas too. I have not found the areas to be crowded either. It seems like some sections get hammered especially opening weekend but if anything they could stand more pressure. Having a plan A, B, C, and even A D thru Z is a must. There are also the park hunts, you only need a deer tag to apply nothing special. There is mostly private land and finding a spot to hunt without leasing can be tough.
Getting a bow or crossbow gives you the best shot of meat in the freezer as it really extends your season. Preseason scouting and using squirrel hunting gives you an excuse to get out.
As far as public ranges go the one at Roush Lake is my favorite. It has the most positions. The others can be packed the closer to deer season you get. Roush is the best use of ground used to shooting positions.
Good Luck. Also you might consider a shotgun as Turkey season is just around the corner.

Welcome to the forum. There are several decent public land opportunities near your part of the state. You can check the Indiana DNR website for a list of all the public lands. Sounds like you have a nice assortment of deer rifles for public and private ground.

Welcome aboard.
I lived in Aurora, Colorado for a few years when I was a kid. I loved it out there.
