I got this in an email..
I cant verify all the facts, but they seem plausible..Subject: Poached This deer was poached in Corning, Iowa. Not sure of the date. Kid shot the deer one night, then went into town the next day to get a tag. Tagged it, then started showing it around town. Wildlife Biologist was in town and noticed the eyes looked too cloudy to be shot that morning (the date of the tag and the day the kid said he shot it). DNR showed and agreed. DNR then noticed the tag; it was a doe tag. Well, one thing led to another and some details are missing, but here's where it stands today. Deer was scored over 250". Kid isn't in much trouble because he wasn't read his rights. Was subject to a $31,000 fine, but, because he wasn't read his rights, it's been reduced to a couple hundred bucks and he loses his license for 5 years - oh and DNR took the deer. I guess it's taking a tour around Iowa and can bee seen this year at the Iowa Deer Classic...

I discussed this with a few folks from Iowa and they said it was all true.

He may be dumb, but I'm glad he is. I hope this ruins his spirit to hunt anymore.

What a shame for a nice deer like that to fall to a poacher! That kid, and his parents shouold be drawn and quartered! He learned poaching from someone! Suspended license or not, if he poached a deer already, what is to stop him from hunting without a license? Nothing but his conscience, and apparently he doesn't have one!

Yeah, I saw the block too! In farm country, it could be for a perfectly legit purpose, but with this genius.... In any case, I think I would have taken it out of the truck. And the idiot got a doe tag? Too bad. What a deer.

The kid made a bad choice, its unfortunate. But, lots of grown men would do the same thing if they spotted a 250" buck. Heck, I bet it happens somewhere in Indiana everyday through deer season, on button bucks and doe, little basket racks and monsters alike. Greed is a powerful thing, and seeing a 250" deer could make a otherwise decent and ethical person do bad things. Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning what he did.....but he is a kid. Its clear to me he isn't a deer hunter, otherwise he would have know what tag to buy. Iowa DNR was just lucky it was a dumb kid who did it, somebody older might have gotten away with it.
