With Wisconsin and Northern Illinois having CWD in their deer herds it will be just a matter of time before it makes it way into our deer herd. My question is, "is there a plan of action in place by the IDNR to deal with CWD when it shows up"? If so what is the plan? h.h.

The first step of the plan is to rid our state of the shooting zoo's...... after that Id say we will all pay the price one day.. sad but true....

Hopefully by the time that happens the IDNR will have enough data from states that have went through it to have a plan of action.
Not sure if the "kill them all " approach is the right one or not.

I heard at one time that it is est. to take approx 75 years to reach the far southern counties naturally. However, it can be there in 4 hours by truck.

H.H.,
Last DAC meeting or two ago, Jim Mitchell was asked that question, and at that time, the plan was to establish a quarantine and eradication zone similar to what Wisconsin was then doing... now that was a couple years back, so don't know if that strategy has changed or not...
I know it's a nightmare scenario that we all hope doesn't become reality...

I bet CWD would slow down the practice of leaseing. ;D

jkd,
Thanks for you reply. I would think our IDNR would have a plan-of-action ready to activate when the first case shows up. h.h.

Wisconsin spent a ton of money eradicating deer in the"hot zones".
Colorado has done very little, if any, eradication.
Now I know Wisconsin has a bunch more deer, but Colorado doesn't seem to be hurt real bad by CWD.
Lots to consider before the IDNR drops a bundle in killing them all in a certain area.
Hopefully we will never see it in Indiana in our lifetimes.

With CWD be "very" close to Indiana in Illinois in the wild it will be here rather quickly. It is probablt already here but lack of testing has not found it yet. Indiana will take pretty much the stance that Illinoise has done. We have it, We will watch it and monitor it but it is not the end of the world. There will be no mass kill offs or devastating effects. Amazingly enough the demand to hunt Illinoise has only grown since the discovery of CWD in wild deer in Illinois. The only ill effects of this is when it gets blown out of proportion to push other agendas.
