I've hunted quite a few farms in my area FOR FREE that are now under Basecamp leasing, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't pay a nickel to hunt them. I feel sorry for anyone paying and hoping for a giant.

I saw the title of this and was intrigued. I am currently lucky enough to have access to about 150ac to hunt due to my buddy managing the farm for family friends and him having access to even better land. Prior to that I had access to a similar sized parcel near Warsaw that got leased for north of $3000 just for deer season. I will be the first to say that leasing is not something I have ever been interested in per se. Meat is a major part of the experience for me and the cost per pound and per hour just are not something I could imagine swallowing, especially given what my OOS bundle now costs. I will say that I can't understand the outlay vs what is used/acquired (especially when you consider leased land will still take either effort or additional cash outlay for habitat and maintenance). Some of you know that for the last couple of years I have been trying to find a way to buy some land (40 ac or more). This is for recreation(hunting, cutting wood, possible fish or waterfowl) but also for something neither side of my family has ever had.....a "home place" with some sort of fairly humble cabin. The prices in IN have made that somewhat of a pipe dream unless somebody takes pity on a half broken Vet and offers a good deal. So now I am off, looking in other Midwestern states....and have found them to be approachable. To the point where I may be able to move on something in the next year....HOPEFULLY I've been looking at Eastern KY. Still some cheap land down there.

About 10-15 years ago I scouted a bunch of properties from basecamp and HLN, and everything in my price range felt like it would be worse than hunting on public land. I just gave up and started hunting public land exclusively at that point, and have actually grown to love it. I've been scouting muscatatuck refuge the last couple weeks and jumped 2 nice ones so far, probably in the 140's to 150's. I would not be surprised at all to see a booner come off that property.

Actually it can be just a simple as going to Basecamp. I leased off them for a couple years with no complaints and we killed deer. My point was that there's a lot more to it than that, and many hunters are paying much less that what basecamp is charging. I wanted real world info from real Indiana hunters.

Make sure your signed in and have your hunters orange on when Bow hunting there… they will write you up!

I have 2 Leases. One is $1,000 and the other is $300. The $300 lease is only 16 acres but it is awesome.

Some of these bs answers..I own 120 but have leased. I can tell you a 100% if you lease pike, gibson, posey & pay less than 50 an acre your doing good.
