Reading some posts in the deer thread got me thinking... What is the coldest conditions you've ever been in? What is the coldest you body has ever been? I can remember some duck hunts that were frigid, one in particular was a hunt on the Wabash sleet was falling, temps were diving, I spit on the side of the boat just to see how fast it would freeze, it froze almost instantly. Another was the coldest my body has ever been, it was January, deer hunting temps were about 20 and the wind was about 20 mph. I was frozen to the core, took me a few hours to warm up in front of Mom and Dad's wood burner. Another duck hunt along the Ohio, we were hunting layout blinds in mid 20's temps, laying on the ground will sap the warm out of you pretty quick!
What's yours? Hunting or working?

About 10 years ago I hunted Ohios muzzy season in January. When I got out of the truck at 11am it had warmed up to -11. Duck hunted several times when it was -5 when we got out of the truck.
I remember, I have a pic somewhere, when my truck hit -28 on the way to work one morning. Cold enough my windshield cracked. Dads diesel wouldn't start that afternoon at work.

Ice fishing with my old grammar school gym teacher. I frostbit fingers on both hands. Coldest I've been in? Snowmobiling in Northern Wisconsin. Walked into the bar/restaurant and I read 20 on the thermometer by the door. I thought it was a bit cold out and it must have been the wind.
When we walked out it read 31 and I had to take another look. That was below zero temps..... It was -81 with the wind chill. I was glad that the car had a lower radiator heater that warmed up the anti-freeze. A few friends cars didn't want to start, we had to build charcoal fires under the motors on aluminum foil to get the motors warm enough to start the next morning.
Budd should remember temps like that. Budd, do you remember a snowmobile called a Manta? My buddy had one on that trip. Somehow he managed to figure out a way to roll it going down the trail that was mostly straight. IIRC I had a '79 El Tigre 5000

When we scouted the week before we could not believe it. Huge trees shredded with rubs. Scrapes everywhere. We walked up to within 30 yards of a monster buck that just stood there and looked at us. Deer everywhere, that didn't spook at all. That all changed as soon as the muzzleloaders started popping off. I bow killed a decent sized six pointer. Woodmaster muzzleloader killed a nice ten pointer. Dean Stallion killed a whopper non-typical.

-2 on a cold December morning .. bowhunting Muscatatuk NWR after the draw hunts were over. Fortunately there was no wind.. I had a draw hunt there that was probably one of my most miserable. Don’t know the actual temps, but it was freezing cold, sleet/snow, and some really brisk winds. We were popsicles by the time we got down from our stands and we didn’t see a single deer.

Somewhere around zero in late archery in freedom watched deer break ice to get water. Other than that goose hunting with duff I had to prove myself he is a hard sell think that was like 5 degrees.

When I was a teenager my satellite dish in the back yard got iced up from a snow storm. I grabbed a pitcher of hot water to clear it off. I wore flip flops with was a stupid decision in several inches of snow. When I turned to come back from the dish my flip flops stuck in the snow. I ran back to the house barefoot. I could barely walk by the time I got in the door.
I'm not much of a cold weather hunter. I like to be done before gun season.

I'm on a roadcall right now and its 16deg with 5deg windchill. Cold enough for me!
I worked outside for hours at -14deg. My beard was froze solid. I ended up with bronchitis from that.
I will never stay out that long again. I will warm up inside anytime I get cold now. No job is worth risking your health. The company sure doesnt give a crap.

I can still remember like it was yesterday, walking home from sledding from noon to after dark, "shoe" skating on a frozen creek, REAL ice skating on lakes and ponds, probably a few other things we did when I was a sledding age kid. Snow tunnels and such. But back then, winter apparel meant every pair of jeans we owned may be three pairs if it was near a birthday or after Christmas so I'd have ONE pair with out holes. Barn boots, two pair of socks, bread bags. Jersy gloves.
I remember MANY times walking home like some kind of frozen Frankenstein monster with jeans soaking wet and then frozen solid from the hips down by the time I got home. Gloves frozen to the sleeves of what ever sweatshirt/jacket combo I could get on at the time.
I don't know HOW cold that was but I KNOW I get cold now walking to the mailbox and back perfectly dry for the whole trip.

Working for a public water utility company, Wintertime water leaks are probably the most miserable I have ever been. About 6 years ago the temp got down below 0 with -30 wind chill for several days. One night we had a couple of mains breaks and several service line breaks. I was wearing insulated chest waders and climbing out of the hole the waders would freeze to where I could hardly walk a few steps before they would freeze solid as I was heading to the truck to warm up. Hands beyond numb. It was a miserable night for sure. I'm getting too old for this crap!! When I was younger and trapped hard. I had several bad days breaking through ice over beaver runs and going over my waders in a marsh 2 miles from the truck. The only time I ever got frostbite was when a bunch of us guys went skiing at Paoli Peaks overnight. -30 degree windchill and Crown Royal don't mix. I lost both big toenails and it was very painful for months. That was many years ago and I have gotten a little smarter since.

Duck and goose hunting in some miserable conditions = fun times. 1 time in particular was new years day hunting v a flooded pasture. Started out just raining but Temps were falling fast. Got soaked by the rain which turned into sleet. Pretty sure I got hypothermia that trip. Ended up very ill.
Working, I had to respond to several water line failures on cold nights while working for the facilities group for gm. Not sure of Temps other than wow! Luckily I was not digging the holes or doing the repairs but I was there to help track the pipes, find valves get additional maintenance support...one night in particular was very bad but not sure of the Temps other than very cold and windy

I participated in a 10k run (I fast walked) in March in downtown Louisville. There was a 10 mph wind and the temperature was 12 at the start and 20 when I finished. One minute you were in a shaded wind tunnel, and the next a sunny stretch. It was impossible to stay warm in the shade without sweating in the sun. My core did good enough to tolerate, but my face and feet were miserable. It started at 8:00 a.m. and I was home, showered, and on the couch well before noon. Honestly, I don't think my toes warmed up until that evening.

I rode my Harley from Ogden Kansas to Kansas City when it was 9 degrees out. Only thing that wasn’t covered was a little spot above my glasses (no windshield) and that spot got so cold it felt like brain freeze and I would have to pull over for coffee. When I was stationed in Germany, we did a field exercise in Graffenweir where we had to sit down inside fox holes full of snow because some higher ups (that never arrived) wanted to walk around in the forest and see all the good little Army men playing soldier. I don’t remember the temperature but I remember the sensation of “warming up” when in went hypothermic. Deer hunting was probably in the mid 90s. It rained for about 45 minutes and then dropped several degrees in temperature and started to snow really hard. My dad had to break me out of the ice and carry me back to the truck.

I've duck and rabbit hunted in the single digits. A couple of years ago I went coyote hunting at night and I think it was about 7 degrees. About 10 years ago I was working in Nebraska and we had about 4-6" of snow fall one day in early February and the high the next day was 5 degrees. The wind was blowing so hard that it looked like it was snowing again. No one worked but I had to go out numerous times to make sure concrete blankets were staying on our building pads. Here's a link to some pics from that time February 2010 Photo Gallery

Working in Maine for two years it hit -43 degrees one day and over 8 feet of snow. Higher than the stop signs. I had to plug in the car every night and block the car radiator 100% using cardboard when I drove. We went 30 days not getting above 0 degrees. Chains on the wheels was mandatory.
The blizzard in 1977 it got -25 below
