While, I live within 40 miles of Sugar Ridge, and 60 miles from Glendale; I don't Dove Hunt. However, I would think they would be just as productive as any public hunting areas.

Thusly why he wants to know how the fields look!
If I make it down there I will be sure to check Hardy. I don't go down that way much though. I know last year it was awful, but totally opposite the year before.

Chucker:
I'll run by Glendale and take a look for you this week as I live about 12 miles from it. Was through there to see how the fields were coming up a about 3 weeks ago and it looked like they had been planted a bit later than usual, then again it was pretty wet on and off.
Depending on which unit of Sugar Ridge your interested in, I live from 3-7 miles from them. Their fields (or least haven't in past few years) have not produce well for past few years if they have been planted. You are right about Glendale, 8-10 years ago the doves were thick, past 4-5 years have been pretty spotty.

I can attest to the fields being wet this year. We had to scrap our plans to plant sunflowers at Crosley FWA and opt for millet and sorghum.

Hardy typically is good. I live about 10 miles from there and used to work there. The best year we had was when a bunch of certified sunflower/sorghum seed went out of date and a store donated it. We drilled it and man did the doves swarm it. They will bushhog strips through there about two weeks prior to the draw hunts, and its usually pretty good shooting.
P.S. The draw hunts are pretty brutal. Never liked them there. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! you will get shot raining down on you fairly regularly. Weekday afternoons after the draw hunts are your best bet. Normally nobody or only a couple of parties there.

He's right about the shot. If you have some kind of eye protection WEAR it. I've been 3 times and I've never not had shot come down on me.

Drove and walked around Glendale's fields a bit this past weekend. Fields on southside of the property look like they'll be a bit late, flowers up, but looks to be about 2 weeks behind where it should be. Not surprising as the south end fields don't drain too well and were late going in. Fields on north portion of the property have done pretty good, nice flower up on NW corner of the FWA. In fact, might be a little too early as it one field I looked at is already blooming heavily.
As we get closer to the 1st, I will drive around again and see if there are any birds moving through.

Spent the weekend at Glendale and had a chance to drive the property and speak to the property manager about the dove field. The fields which were planted in April prior to the Monsoons have bloomed (very well) and will likely be gone by Sept. 1st. Other fields planted following rains have not done so well....some have flower (won't be quite ready 9/1) while others don't.
Property manager indicated that they've not seen many birds yet, but it is still early. Also, he indicated that it was unlikely they will do a draw on opening day. Call ahead to make sure, but he said he had told quite a few people already that there would be no draw.
