I know a few guys that sack turkeys every year in the HNF. They are willing to work pretty hard for them though. You have to be willing to go where most hunters won't.

HNF has lots of area around the Deam Wilderness Area and is good the last week of the season. By then most all the hunters have given up and the birds are educated, but can still be killed.

Hoosier National has a lot of birds. Can also have a lot of hunters. During the week isn't bad obviously, and after opening weekend the pressure dies down quite a bit.

Howdy turk2di,
I see yer from KY. I will be turk hunting the wma around mortons gap this spring. It will be my second year there.
Fairbanks landing has a ton of turkeys on it here in Indiana. Its about two in a half hours north of the KY border. Take 41 north to 48 west to 63. Turn north on 63 for about a mile till you get to fairbanks. Check the regs though, I think the first week is draw only.

The HNF is way overrated, Hamilton co. is a better bet. Its a good time to scout, they are already gobbling and strutting up there. ;D

There are some Division of Forestry (state) properties that I think might be hidden gems.

Harrison-Crawford State Forest in Harrison Co. has lots of turkeys and not too much competition for them . It's located on SR-62 just before the Crawford Co. line and also extends into Crawford . You can reach it easily by coming in from Brandenburg , Ky. to SR-135 north and then go west on SR-62 about 6-8 miles .
A few miles west on interstate 64 you can go down south SR-37 to a string of Dept. Of Agriculture properties better known as the Hoosier Natl. Forest . There are plenty of deer and turkeys there , and some pretty good fishing too . The entry fee was $4 last year . The first two have drive in access and the third property down the road gets no pressure because you have to walk in about a mile or so .
