The Boat has a Vin number on it and the sticker letters and numbers. Plus the boat came with the bill of sale’s and the old registration card. The trailer on the other hand just came with a Bill of sales. Trust me when I tell you that getting a title for the trailer is not going to be easy or cheap. If it had an Indiana title you would not have these problems, if it had any kind of title at all it could still be done fairly easy but since you have no title what so ever it's going to be a while. NEVER BUY A VEHICLE, BOAT, MOTORCYCLE, ATV or an AIRPLANE UNLESS IT HAS A VALID TITLE AND ALL THE NUMBERS MATCH.

Can I still register the boat with the vin number and the boat registration ? And then work on getting the trailer registered ?

YES; but that depends on when was the last time it was registered, I think it's prior to 2017 if a boat didn't have a title then it you can apply for a title. It may require a police check to verify the HIN# and a bill of sale. Unless the laws have changed you can operate that boat and trailer for 30 days from the date of purchase just carry the bill of sale for each the boat and trailer. BTW good luck on Sunday. |

2007 was the last time that the boat was registered and the last time that the boat seen water ( honestly ) . So I need to flag down a cop car ( not the first time I had to do this )

Th BMV calls those vehicles "MVIN" vehicles, get the forms from BMV, save receipts for major components, such as axles and steel, get police inspection when completed to verify it has no VIN# when approved the BMV will send you a letter with a MVIN number. Make a metal plate with that # stamped on it then affix it to the trailer or stamp that # onto the trailer. Have a police inspection done again showing them the BMV letter with that # and show them the # now on the homemade trailer, revisit BMV and get a title for the trailer. |

I would sell or scrap the trailer and buy a new used one with a title.

But the original owner left the boat and the trailer with the ex wife and then I believe that he passed away. The boat and trailer has seen the road or water since 2007 according to the sticker on the boat |

You want to make sure you have a separate bill of sale for the boat and for the trailer each listing the price per unit.
