We hunted there last Fri, sat and Sunday. I saw about 16 deer and only two bucks. It wasn't what i expected and there were a lot of hunters. we saw no one with a deer. i could have shot several does but that isn't what i was hunting. also saw about 30 turkeys in one flock.
all the wooded areas had a truck or two at every parking spot. the deer have had a lot of pressure put on them and the bucks are hard to find. it reminds me of the local reservoir. i still had a great time but doubt i will hunt there again seeing its a 4 hour drive one way. h.h.

Couple of questions I have been pondering.....
Up untill the opening day of the 2004 firearms season that 8000++acre was NOT open to public hunting. So they basic had a NO buck rule.
Tons and Tons of doe deer running around in there and it's "Buck Only" during the general firearms part of the season.
I have hunted that property about 8 times this bow season, and NEVER failed to see deer. And have NEVER seen so many turkey!....But it's only an hour and fifteen from me!

Cambygps,
I talked to a local hunter and he said the locals have been hunting there for several years and i found a few wooden stands nailed into trees that were only a couple years old.
I think the big bucks are in the low land, in those big, high horse weeds fields. The two bucks i saw were small 6pters.
The hunting to me was no better than what i have at a local reservoir. We would have stayed a couple more days but the campground closed Oct 30 and we couldnt find anywhere to camp. If i ever hunt it again i will concentrate on the bottom lands because almost all the hunters we saw were hunting the high ground.
There were 4 guys from Michigan camping where we stayed that read about Fairbanks in a magizine and they planned on hunting last week. h.h.

Yea.....I was told that ONLY employees of Indiana-Michigan Power Company had permission to hunt that area, prior to it being handed over to the state. Anyone else was trespassing.
Did you notice any oder in the air while you were hunting there?
We have been there several times this year and the air was filled with the oder that you smell with natural gas. I was told that is the reason why that power company owned so much land there, they bought up all that land because the residents were always complaining about the oder.
With that said, how do you think that oder affects the deer and their sence of smell?

I didn't notice any oder. We did drive-by some oil wells that were pumping to wards the north side. They sit right in the middle of the property. Maybe thats what you were smelling.
I don't think deer mind the gas smell. After they breathe it a while i think they can smell any other scent enough to know when danger is close. h.h.
