Made it back to the woods after our family vacation this past week. Only saw a couple doe fawns feeding about 200 yds out. Nice evening though!!

Well passed on the adult beverages, got our bellies full and made the 1½ hr drive to Glendale just for a joy ride and exercise, and didn't see a dog gone thing. That place has got SO much overgrowth in the woods unless your 20+ feet in the tree no arrow is getting to your target There are some places that they have cleared with a machine and other spots where the hardwood canopy is still shading out the brush. I reckon I need to do some more recon there. I'm not kidding when I say I did a 4 mile walk & stalk and didn't see a darn thing. I tried to get into the thicker stuff because I was thinking " IF I was a deer, I would be here because I can see/hear from here but didn't see anything at all. 3 yrs ago I shot 6 doe's so maybe I exceeded my limit lol

Blood dried up on the other 4, and never found my bolts either

Used to you couldn't hunt squirrels without having deer walk in on you. Don't see that near as much anymore. I think the herd must be down quite a bit from where it used to be there.

I was squirrel hunting today and I saw where 2 bucks were pushing each other around. Some hoof slide marks on the sand were 4' long. I pulled trail cam cards, and one cam didn't take pics. Either that or the card is bad. I have a different newer card in the 2 cams that are acting up, so in 2 days I'll pull them and see if it's the cam or the cards. I did get a pic of one 6 point buck where the main beam is broken off about 2" above the G1's, so it's starting to get serious. Nothing on cam with antlers worth shooting.

Ended up seeing 2 huge does and the biggest 6 point I’ve ever seen. Decided to pass on the does as the one was right at last light and I could hardly see anything. The other one was only in a good position to shoot for about 6 seconds. The 6 point got up from his bed on an island in the middle of the lake and walked through the water to the mainland. The island he was bedded on was only about 10’x20’. Goes to show that deer will bed the last place you expect to avoid predators and people. Really cool night of hunting.

I shot a big doe this morning just b4 9am. Field dressed at 100 lbs. Even the guy at the processor commented on how big it was.

Turkey hunting this evening. 17 turkeys and one spike. Well guess what? Had the please of hearing something behind me while I was settling to shoot a hen turkey. Turn head. See the spike 15 YARDS away and looking nearly at me! Turn head. Young female turkey walks into the clear within 30 yards. Aim, shoot. Had the pleasure of killing my first fall and first crossbow turkey while the spike was standing literally right behind me and I sure scared him way more than I scared the other turkeys!

Arrow is cleaned, checked for damage, blades resharpened, and arrow spin-checked. I use a fine Sharpie and mark the back of a blade, the broadhead alignment washer, and the ferrule when it is perfectly aligned. Those 3 marks did not line up the same when it put the broadhead back on this time. It's nice to have a reference of where to start though. Ready for deer #4 with this arrow!

I’ve only been out 5 times in 4ish weeks so far , which is saying something if you’re used to my hunt post frequency from previous years 🤣 I’ve been working my tail off so that when I need to be out there in the coming weeks, I can be. On the 4 hunts at private spots I’ve been to, I’ve just been trying to poke around with low impact when I have gone. Got my saddle setup all together and farted around with it the other night when I took my oldest 3.5) hunting. We did hear deer moving around pretty close in front of us , but the boy does not say DADDY quietly 🤣 fine by me. Better than a hunt without him any day ! I’m stoked for a lifetime of hunting with these boys 💪 Congratulations to those of you who have already harvested this season ! Hoping to be back out for at least one or two good sits in the coming week hopefully 💪 I’ve really been itching to hunt , but worked through most of the last two cold fronts. Friday should be decent ! Link to the hunt video is below. www.facebook.com/100088386034780/posts/pfbid0XJDCuaqeVxujGczVimnuRCLGeCS4g3MgGnwWgaf8xzKCEc8UKJSNxZYBCoSqA3Mgl/?mibextid=hubsqH

Unfortunately I can't. My wife's uncle was right beside me when I let the bolts eat and I was using a tripod shooting stick. Only thing I can figure is I was using Rage hypodermic broadheads and maybe there was a malfunction on the broadhead deployment. After that, I switched to Schwacker 2 blade 3" 150 grain and I've had no trouble finding a deer

I’m glad you’ve found something that works better for you though! Fixed blade heads for me ! I just can’t stomach trusting a $10 machine to work right 100% of the time, and I don’t want my arrow to put the brakes on when it enters the deer. This year I’m shooting magnus stinger 150’s with a total arrow weight around 535ish. Excited to see what the new arrow and head setup does!

Since the firearm season doesn't come in until the 18th I feel I have I have plenty of opportunity to archery hunt.
Might go a few times before Halloween, but it is game on from then on.
I went up to my 40 acres this morning.
All three mock scrapes had been hit pretty good. One branch was torn out of the food plot rubbing tree. I reinstalled it and freshened the scrapes up. Woody’s Wonderful Whiz!
My Reveal camera has not updated in a month, but it is taking pictures daily. As long as it's doing that I'm not messing with it.
I cleared the path to the farmers field south of us with my weed whacker/brush blade. I only had to do about 15 feet where a tree had fallen over the old trial and briars had sprung up. Remarked the trail with new orange streamers leading to my ditch and then walk in the ditch to the stand . That’s more for my grandson as I know the ground like the back of my hand.
There are 4 big scrapes on that old trail! Same place every year.
Need to check on a couple more stands. One is close to the 4 big scrapes. .
