Today was day #2 aboard IN THE BOX.
We got on board at 5:00am with overcast skies and 76 degree temps.
We headed for 135 feet of water or about 10 miles out.
We were running at a angle to oncoming 1-2 foot waves which caused them to break over the boat at times soaking me and Schall53 because we were seated in the backward seats.
We got out to the 135' mark and the graph was lit up with big fish and bait very promising as we set rods.
Schall was first man up and he didn't have to wait long when the center downrigger popped and it was game on with him landing a real nice Laker.
That's when the fun ended..... it began to rain and then lighting and wind and more rain it was so dark that the sky and water appeared the same color.
That's when it got crazy 3 rods went off at once so Bruce and Drew who had remained dry through the run out were now getting drowned and of coarse me too.
Drew was first to get his fish in with the Captain netting it and throwing it on the floor and then Bruce got his in and it to went on the floor.
Drew tried to pickup one of the fish and a wave hit us putting him on the floor also then my fish came aboard and it to went on the floor with Drew and the other fish.
The rain is raining so hard and the wind and waves were beating us up so we quickly pulled up all our gear so that we could get the heck out of there when another rod went off.
Poor Drew had just got back on his seat when The Captain handed him the rod to reel in that fish giving us 5 nice Lakers in short order but we got to run because getting uglier by the minute.
We made it back in bustin waves all the way getting dumped on as we we laughed all the way to the dock.
This storm blew up out of nowhere.
I am here to tell you there isn't a rain suit known to man that would have kept you dry in this situation.
Every part of my body got wet and as I am typing this all contents of my wallet are spread out on the dining room table and all my cloths are hanging to dry.
In all my years of being afield and afloat I have never gotten this wet.
GOD I can't wait for the next trip!
