Reading the Indiana 2023-2024 fishing regulations guide, I ran across something interesting. Listed among the "species illegal to possess", Indiana lists the Wels catfish. For those not familiar, the Wels catfish can easily reach 6 FEET long and weigh several hundred pounds. They are considered an invasive species, so you are required by law to kill them if caught.
I'm shocked. I didn't think they would survive here, but if they are listed as an invasive species, officials must have at least a small concern.
Though I don't want invasive species in Indiana, I would like to hook into a Wels catfish.
Anyone here ever hear or see a Wels catfish in Indiana? If so, where/when?
