When one makes a kill and needs to check it in how do you go about proving landownership? In the checkingame questionnaire one of the licenses listed is obviously land owner exemption. I’ve never had an issue with this as I own 62 acres and 1/3 is leased to a farmer for crops but I wonder about people being honest? If someone who did not own any land and tried this exemption how does the Indiana DNR prove or check validity? Or does that option even come up? Does the database know I own farmed land? Just curious as I’m sure people could/would try to use that option to avoid licenses. I btw have a lifetime license. 😀

Most people are honest when using the check in game system but Conservation Officer's do use a variety of tools to check validity on hunters using landowner exemption. If there is a question of validity we will make contact with the hunter for an interview. These interviews allow us to confirm if they are or are not qualified to use landowner exemption. We do the same thing for anything questionable in the check-in game and license systems.
