I was in Ohio yesterday, 150 miles from home to pick up fish. Loading the tanks on the trailer I felt a bit weird and sat on the trailer to take a break while they got more fish. Next thing I know I can hear them calling my name, but I can't respond - it seems like a dream. They put some water on my head, and we took my T-Shirt and got that wet and put it around my neck. That brought me around and I drank 40 fl oz water but still felt weird. Bone tired, wobbly, etc. Mouth felt like it had a fist full of cotton balls in it. Had a heck of a time writing the check to pay for the fish, got on the road and still felt weird. Called a buddy in Oklahoma, he said go get a Gatorade asap. Within 15 minutes of drinking it I felt 100%.
Drank more today, no issues.

I can tell you from many years of trying to keep workers safe in an extremely hot work setting heat stress is sneaky and you can be fine one minute and flat on your back the next minute.
It was usually the first hot spell that got them. Not used to it and not taking proper precautions of drinking fluids BEFORE they get thirsty. Thirst is a poor indicator of if your body needs more fluids or not. Usually by the time you’re thirsty your body is well on its way towards heat stress.
Just drinking more water is not enough. You have replace electrolytes too. That’s where your Gatorade came in.

I buy (via company card) SUGAR FREE Gatorade or Powerade for our workers in the Summer. Never questioned by the bean counters and always appreciated by the workers. If not, they foolishly rely on soft drinks.
Hydration is so underrated. I remember middle and high school football practices when we had to "earn" a drink of water by running our tails off. I am not, in any way shape or form, a member of the lawsuit mentality. But, I have ZERO sympathy for schools and coaches that get in trouble for heat-related health issues with athletes. One of my oldest and dearest friends lost a nephew due to heat and dehydration during football practice. The family sued, won, and donated all proceeds to their church. Such a needless tragedy.

Fairly cheap, might keep that with you.

It’s not bad, but the link I’ve provided below has been incredible for me when shooting all day. (Also a favorite amongst college students on a Saturday or Sunday morning)

Well, I dang near pulled me a “Scotty esshup” today! I decided to go down to my property and mow the existing path, then extend it another 1/4 mile through the woods. Unfortunately, I had two trees come down across the path that was pending. One was about 10 inches in diameter and the other maybe a little bigger. I neglected to bring my chainsaw. I decided I could handle these with my hand Stihl pruner. The first one went OK. The second one was putting a whooping on me! Next thing you know, I tried to stand up, felt real goofy. And I fell to the ground. As I lay there, trying to regain my composure, I kind of snickered to myself, “Man there sure are a lot of ants on a forest floor!👀” I had brought along a quart of iced tea. And I had drained it a few hours earlier. I know better, but I guess I just got a little headstrong in my efforts without drinking enough liquid. After a good 15 minutes of just sitting and resting, I walked back to my truck and headed for the gas station some 5 miles away. I picked up a couple of Gatorade and a half hour later, feeling strong again, I’m going at it!

I probably would have if I tried to stand up, but I knew better.
