So last summer I went to my local gun store and purchased a dead air mask supressor for my 22. I wanted it for squirrel season and the ATF was promising a 90 day turn around. Dealer said it should be approved and delivered by the end of October. Well, when I got to my 90 day, they updated the average wait time to 120 days. When I got to 120, it changed to 180. Got to 180, it went to 210. At 210, it changed to 270 and hasn’t budged. I am at 281 today abcs as of yesterday when I called the ATF, they weren’t allowed to give me any updates or tell me anything. So what is the point of calling? What’s the point in a timeline??? These form 1s are being approved every day for these arm braces, but some of us are coming up on a year when we were promised 3 months. I’ll never buy another one.

Same thing happened to me, I called my state rep and she must have called the ATF and turned over some stones. I had two in limbo, one a month older than the other. The newer one came first, the older one came 2nd, less than a week apart. Sadly she was killed in an auto accident. (Jacki Walorski) Mine was over 300 days.

My first can was 360 days.
Yes of course they said 90 days but what understand is atf is pushing the arm brace thing first.
They are hoping to get to 90 days in the future, time will tell….see what I did there?? 😀
Anyways.
Unfortunately calling them don’t change anything.
All you do is fill out your paperwork, send in your $200 and wait…….and wait……and wait.
That’s all you can do.
As a matter of fact I have a can in jail now, hoping to make the 250-270 days most are seeing now.

I am totally unedgitated on this subject and have a couple questions.
Is there a $200 fee for each can or 1 fee covers different cans. Can you use a can on multiple arms or say if you have 2 3006s and 1 308 a can for each.
Can you use a can that fits a 3006 on a 243 or a 22.
Can you get a can for a pistol or just longguns
If you want a can for a pistol is it harder to qualify for than a long gun.

I’ll try to answer to the best of my ability.
Yes $200 fee for each individual can.
Yes you can use one can for multiple firearms just check can manufacturer for limits (barrel length, cartridges etc. )
You can use a can that’s for a .308” bore diameter for a .243 or .223 no problem. — you can always go down in calibers not up.
Most people buy one can and use on several different other rifles.
Yes you can get a designated pistol can
It’s not harder to get a can for either pistol or long gun it’s the same process as the other.

As an add to the info, you can get a can that has a screw on end cap that you change for different calibers. The tighter the hole for a particular bullet the quieter it will be. Buyer beware, and do your homework. Not all cans provide the same amount of noise reduction. Also, if you are thinking of getting one for a rimfire (like a .22) make sure that you can take it apart and clean it. .22 LR is MUCH dirtier than any centerfire cartridge and they need cleaning.
Basically the bigger the can, the quieter it is.
The can can be used on different rifles like Titanium said. I have one that I use on .308 and .223, I just change the end cap. I MUST remember to change the end cap back to the larger bullet diameter or risk damaging the can, and if that happens it's buy a new one.
