I go with a private sales for sure…. Most dealers are begging for used Vehicles Just got funs I looked at prices for my 1999 4Runner. Cheapest was $5500 (2 wheel drive) and the most expensive was $10,500. Most were way over 200,000 miles where mine is only 182,000. I think I’ll keep it.

Local dealer has a 2020 with 100k mi for over $50k. My head must have been buried in the sand for way too long to miss these prices. Monday I'll be looking at my buddies repairable inventory at the salvage yard too.

I was in a similar spot just over 2 years ago. I knew exactly what I wanted .....F150 XL, 5.0, 4x4 locker, extended cab, long bed. There was only one in CO and it was white, stripped and they still wanted full sticker. It took me a few months but I finally found what I wanted and got a great deal. I realize it was before everything went crazy but this dealership was great to deal with. I flew from CO to Cleveland, they picked me up and once I was at the dealership I was out of there in less than a half an hour (financed through IMCU and just had to sign pretty much). I would definitely give them a look. I love my truck. Carries everything I need easily, comfy, good off road and if I keep my foot light I can get 21 mpg on the highway. www.fairwayfordohio.com/

Unfortunately now with the Feds bumping up the interest rate, that has transferred over to the mortgage and auto industry. Last time I checked with my credit union, their finance rates were higher than the dealership for a used truck, but lower than the dealership for a new truck.
I average between 50K and 60K/year and have driven a Ram since '16-'17. New one every 2 years before it gets 100K on it. The only one issue I had was with a 2019, and that was the hydroboost system.

Found one that fits my needs. I'm a Chevy guy at heart, but have had several Fords over the years and always had good luck. So, I'm not gonna be choosy on the right deal that fits my needs. My buddy repairs lightly damaged trucks thru his auto yard. I have been friends with him for 30yrs, and between my dad and I, we have had 9 different trucks over 27yrs, and all were superb in their day. This one is no exception. It's a 2013 F150 XLT with 5.0, 6 spd automatic, crew cab, 4x4, new tires, etc. Was a bumper hit that bent the bracket, but no frame work. It popped the air bags, so it was totalled by the insurance. I test drove it and it's like a new truck. 42k miles on her. Looking to be mid/upper teens on the price tag. Definately am considering it.

Our Durango got backed into and had similar damage, insurance totalled it. We bought it back and fixed it. Big problem is that we can't carry comprehensive insurance on it now. It's probably still a $10k car, but if I put it in a ditch we're just out that money. Just something to consider.

I can’t believe they totaled that with 42k on it sure looks decent in the photo so do you buy that as a salvage title

We've always had full comp due to financing. In fact, one I bought was a totalled unit, got hit, and totalled it a second time. Then, I bought it back for a couple hundred iirc. So, you may want to shop around on insurance to see if it's just them. As said, we have bought 9 trucks so far, all rebuilt titles, and never a problem with financing or insurance.

I can’t believe they totaled that with 42k on it sure looks decent in the photo so do you buy that as a salvage title "Rebuilt title", meaning repaired for reuse. Salvage title would be the slang term used, but actually means its junk and not able to be plated. My dad bought a truck and had it for 10yrs. He gave it to me, and when I went to put it in my name, all the bells and whistles went off at the license branch. It slipped thru the cracks and was labeled a salvage vehicle. They said it cant be plated. I showed them the stack of old registrations he kept, showing they had in fact plated it, and they were dumbfounded how it happened. We had to get a new police vin check, have the salvage yard dig up old records, etc. It was a huge mess, but finally got it straightened out.

Our insurance company (Auto-Owners) wouldn't insure ours for anything above liability.

Looks like a nice one......I'd be more comfortable with something like this in your situation (being good friends with the guy). Crazy on what criteria is used to total a vehicle. Good luck!

Yeah, no problem on that end. He helps me out for a decent time if anything goes wrong. He drives them as his daily driver for a while to make sure they are A1. Absolutely 100% no problem buying these from him.

I could not imagine buying a new truck these days. I drove Ford diesels for 25 years, then in 2016 got a 2500 RAM with a Cummins...FAR better truck.

Took the wife to check it out. We took it for a long ride and went fast, went slow, floored it, panic stops, tested the 4wd, etc. Way nicer than my 03 Chevy. Wife likes it and said you better not mess around, so I committed to it. He's gonna get it aligned, full service, and detailed before the sale, so a week or two it will be coming home.
Did research on them. There are a lot out there with 200k miles plus, so should be a winner.
