The "routine traffic stop" is sad to say....a thing of the past IMO. As a parent of a sheriff's deputy....the worry factor seems to get higher all the time.
Sounds like the officers are going to be okay.

Bum deal for sure. I am sure at 0330 there are no routine stops. I see the mug shots on Facebook local news stories and lots of drug related crime. Just a few days ago a guy from Mitchell was shown with 2 swollen eyes and clearly been in a scuffle. In fact he had been taken 2 times with no impact. Took multiple officers to control the guy. The eye witness said the suspect didn't give up until there were 2 roadblocks up pretty much ensuring no escape. Multiple warrants for drugs, burglary and failure to appear. Dirtbag needs locked up for a while now.
Tell your son to stay vigilant in his safety.

I'm glad the deputy and officer in the event in Mitchell will be okay.

I haven't seen or talked to him in a few years, but I knew one of the officers fairly well in high school and worked with him at Spring Mill for a summer season during college.
Hopefully they both recover with no lingering effects, it sounds like both were hit in somewhat critical areas.

So sad. Glad the suspect got what they had coming.
On all the high profile stories of officer brutality, and racist BS, one thing is almost always common... non compliance to freeze, hands up, lay down, stop resisting, etc... in my opinion, anytime a suspect gets combative and the officer or bystander is in danger, POW, your done. I've been pulled over, approached, or questioned a couple times by law enforcement or CO's, and never once felt threatened, accused, or violated in any way. Probably had something to do with "yes sir, no sir, yes officer", etc and answering honestly that matched my ID and situation.
I give all my respect and well wishes to any person wanting to be an officer today. I couldnt do it or have the restraint it takes to deal with creeps and crooks. Good luck.

Very sad to see
My question though is why did they not find the gun before they tried to arrest him.
I though it was sop to frisk someone once they are taken out of the vehicle regardless if they are arrested or not.
Sounds like he was pulled out, car searched, then they tried to cuff, then he ran.

Drove by the scene 30 minutes after. Tape was up and no one moving so knew it was bad. Suspect did 2013 to 2017 and 2017 to 2022 in INDOC. Serious violent felon in possession of firearm and already had 2 possession with intent to deliver meth.
