It's been a few years now without my little girl. This season really put the desire back in me to want another pup now. This time around I really think I want to try and get into some serious training. Maybe try to do some hunt tests and what not. Last time around I got lucky and my pup just fell into place and was a natural at it. She had some bad habits that no doubt I would love to correct this time around. Anybody know of any lab pups out there right now?

Anybody know of any lab pups out there right now? I'm going to let 1 female pup go, 8 weeks old. Ive made this same cross twice before. This time Im keeping 4 to start and run in derbies. Here is the pedigree. This is Mia's last litter.

I think I have asked your location before? Isn't it on the other side of the planet? I've kinda got my heart set on another yellow dog, but maybe I should change it up this time...

In my opinion, good breeders that breed great dogs are selective on who the dogs go to. The new owners have to be "vetted". I know my last Field Trial Springer that I had I wouldn't have gotten from that breeder if I wasn't already in the game and known by some of the other trial people. If you think Minnesota is far, I drove to Mannassas, Virginia to get her.
When I was living just north of San Diego, Ca, I sent a female back to New York to be bred. Yup, put her on a plane and she was flown back to Ca after the breeding.

Well she is headed to Louisiana. The market is flooded, make sure parents are health tested, and being campaigned as WORKING retrieves.

Yup, put her on a plane and she was flown back to Ca after the breeding. My plans when I got into training, campaigning retrievers was to some day make money off of pups. I've raised 4 litters and sold 4 pups total, rest were given to friends or people that I know that are good trainers. I like to sell 1 from each litter to help cover the stud fee. However I can make a decent dime by keeping most of the litter and selling as 2 year old finished dogs, plus I have the choice of keeping the best one in the litter. You would not believe the health testing I have done to these dogs and what everything cost's. I just sold a 2 year old and took a huge loss because he had grade 1 elbow dysplasia, this was going to be his year to run in qualifying events, as well as being my personal stud dog. Even though grade 1 dysplasia may never bother the dog, I still would never breed him. He went to a serious waterfowl hunter that follows to migration from Canada to Arkansas.

I bought a pup from this litter last spring, you would crap if you knew what I paid for him at 8 weeks old (my wife would kill me). Hope he lives up to his pedigree..only time will tell.

Torgs Labs, out of Bemidji, MN. I train 4-6 pups from there kennel every summer. Some of the easiest to train, willing to please, good in the house with a off switch. Ask for a pup out of Rocky. They are fox red labs. I also train and compete their studs for them.

The "off" switch is really, really important.

The "off" switch is really, really important. For some people...LOL. I actually prefer a dog thats flirting on the edge of being hardwired.

If they aren't house dogs, then I don't think it matters much, as long as they are under control when they get let out of the kennel, either at home or on the road.
