Better than how my Saturdays going so far. I blew a tire on my truck last night on way home from work. Tried to get the spare tire down but the crank was froze. So I slowly limped it back to my moms house, woke her up, and took her car home. So now I got tools loaded up and gonna try to either free it up or cut the whole rack off to get the tire down. 😡 Always something. Would be a good time to go back to drinking. 😇 Here's my project... Look close and you can see I shredded the sidewall completely. That's aggravation that kept me moving down the road to a safe place. Bad day, bad night at work, then ended with this. Time for a do over.

Couldnt get the spare tire winch to turn, so had to use a sawzall and cut off the bracket that goes thru and captures the rim. Total PITA. Got it done, and back on the way home to continue the day.

I don't mind hanging drywall, and I know how to do it. It's the taping and mudding that I hate. I did the basement at the Redwood house in 2008 and hired a father and son Amish team to do the finish work. I picked them up, drove them there, they did all the work with fast set and a damp sponge, and were done in 5 hours without having to sand ANYTHING. It was amazing to watch them work. What would have taken me 4-5 days they did in one day, freeing me up to do other projects. Well worth what they charged, and it wasn't much at all for the work that they did. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat to do any finish work. I don’t know I watch these guys hang 4 x 12 x 54 x 1/2 thick by themselves you can hang all you want I’m paying someone Most of these homes I’m building are 1800 to 2100 sq feet plus another 900 in the garage 9 foot and up ceilings 3 guys two days no way I could ever come close to that I’d be two weeks and 3 trips to the doctor before I’d get done.

I wussed out and used a drywall jack to do the ceilings when I had to put it on the ceiling. The last job I did was the basement at Redwood, dropped ceiling, just had to do the walls. The Amish guy said to put them up horizontally, I didn't like the idea of having seams unsupported so I cut the ends off and did them vertically. With the double doors and the removable mullion I was able to back the trailer with the drywall on it right into the basement.

I hate the undercarriage tire carriers. They always seem to collect salt and rust solid.

Today I started staining the trim to go around the doors and windows in the basement. Also working on replacing the water valve in the refrigerator. This is the third one in the five years we’ve had this fridge. Real pain to install making sure all four lines are cut square and clean so there’s no leaks. Still working on one that is leaking a little.

This past week I've been busy re-locating and building my garden. I decided to move it closer to the house and a smaller garden. It is 19"H x 35'L. I used all reclaimed wood. Now I need to fill it. I will put two layers of corrugated cardboards down, then some small 8 yr. old logs, then topsoil mixed with sand (Our top soil is ground up clay), then top it with potting soil-compost-ash mixture. I then lay a soaker hose on top. After that a top layer of corrugated cardboard. I cut holes for plants etc. On top of the cardboard I add a layer of rotten straw. The worms love the carboard, straw, and wood. After a couple years repeating the carboard and straw the soil will be loaded with worm castings. This is my walk out basement with patio and fireplace.

I have something like that at the house. It faces East. It gets hot and retains the heat because of the concrete wall behind it, and it has a tendency to dry out a lot quicker than other places.

Good eye, it gets sun from rise to noon to 12:30 PM. A little later on the far right end. That will be my cumber trellis area and tomatoes plants. I think it will be better than full sun on the dog days of summer.

It's coming along. The cardboard is down, weed-bug block is on the wall and 80% wood filled. The rain stopped me last evening. I figure I have about 2 more weeks to get it finished so I can plant the garden. The fence between the posts will come after that. I need to buy some mushroom plugs. My son Sam dropped this wood when he was around 17-18 and now he is 26. Perfect fill. Pine, black locust, maple, ash and little oak.

I would throw down a good coating of Urea on it. The bacteria will use nitrogen from the soil to help break it down, and you will be nitrogen limited if you don't add more right by the wood now. The problem that I see is having the bacteria there to break down the wood, and you have wood as a border to the bed. Who's to say that the wood loving bacteria won't try to eat the border wall?

Spent a little time yesterday after turkey hunting and then a few hours this morning getting our new deck dining set put together. I don’t want to touch another Allen wrench for a long time. Goodness there were a lot of bolts to put in.

Actually got it from menards with one of those warehouse sales they do. Got that set for about $215 after the rebate. We’ve been looking for bar height, so we can sit and see over the railing and this one fit the bill without costing a fortune. Looks fairly nice for the price. We shall see once I move it to the deck and we use it a few times.

Another very busy weekend. Friday right after work a trip to my brother farm to pickup swarm trap #2 that had a swarm in it. Saturday, spent 8am to noon working 25 bee hives and all good. Right after lunch worked on filling the garden to dark. Finished before the rain. Right after Sunday service drove to Zanesville, Ohio to pick up a horizontal hive. A 2.5 hour drive. A soaker hose goes top next weekend with corrugated cardboard over the hose. Soon after that the planting of the garden. At each plant location a hole will be cut in the cardboard just enough to plant. After planting the garden straw will be put over the cardboard. Then the removable fence will be constructed for the deer. Keep them out.
