Prices have went up for pond stocking. My suppliers increased the prices between 20%-40% to me this year AGAIN, so I had to pass it on this year. I can't absorb it like I did with some of the price increase last year. For pond stocking here we sell minnows by the pound. There are roughly 9# of minnows per gallon. What a scoop is, I have no idea. Fathead Minnows are now between $19.50 to $12.50 per pound. There are roughly 300 per pound in the size that I get. Smaller ones are 350-400, bigger are 250. Rosy Reds are the same price now, basically just an orange Fathead Minnow. Golden Shiners are the same price this year. The size that I try to get are roughly 3" - 3 1/4" long and will spawn if gotten before the beginning of June. There are roughly 83 of those per pound. I need to find some Central Mudminnows for bait fish. They look like this, and are 2 1/3"-3" in length. They are much more hardy than Fatheads, which seem to be able to live in a Nuclear Waste Dump.

Hiked into yet another small lake, no sled this time, just snowshoe's. No depth charts to go off of, we field it full of holes then started checking them with our graphs. Ended up catching a few descent crappie and a handful of gills. Check that one off our list...LOL

Drilled a lot of holes in 3 foot deep lakes after we worked two hours or more getting to it but it’s half the fun of it

What's the chances of the fathead minnows spawning if you buy them at the right time?

16.5", 2.25# Tonight's dinner. About 20-30 minutes from pond to pan. Fillet leaving skin on, then fry/poach in the following: 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp lemon juice ½ cup white wine vinegar 2 tbsp local honey Mix lemon juice, vinegar and honey in a container so that it is homogenized. Melt butter in pan, get it sizzling, place trout fillets skin side down. Cook on relatively high heat (just under what it takes to brown the butter) for a minute, flip. Cook for another minute. Flip back over so the skin side is down. Brush vinegar mixture over the fillets or pour the whole mixture over the fish, cook on high heat (covered) for 4 minutes. Flip over, cook (covered) for another 4 minutes. Remove and serve. Salt and pepper to taste. I poured the mixture over the fish, it was easier than trying to brush it over the fish. That way there's less spatter on the stove top. It looks like they gained about 1/2 pound so far since stocked the middle of November. They should really start growing once the water temp hits the middle 40's. I stocked about 40 fish in the pond and I'm feeding Optimal Bass food at the rate of 40#/month. (Two throws, 5 seconds each per day from the Texas Hunter feeder.) Today I caught Hybrid Bluegill and Yellow Perch that were eating the pellets too. I cheated and used Stubby Steve's Original Pellet Lure to catch the two that I caught today. The first one was released.

Can’t go wrong with that. I’m hoping to make it down there one day this weekend. Usually go to paynetown this time of year, but may try cutright.

We went down to Monroe for a couple hours today to fish some docks. Man it is a mess with all the water and debris draining into it. Water looks like mud and whole trees floating all around the lake. Did end up catching about ten crappie. All really small though and none came home with us. Nice day to be out there though.

Big jigs seems to help but cold muddy water is hard
