I think there is 12 trumpeter swans on the lake. They ARE NOT those mutswans. Bill is all black and they do not appear to be quite as bid body yise as the mute swans

Could be tundra. Is there a way to tell them apart?

I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with a long lost cousin while working a plant in Mexico, Missouri. I found out that they actually now own 3200 acres of farmland near Centralia and the son of my 2nd cousin is huge into waterfowl and training Labs. We'll be hooking up later this year and prepping for the upcoming waterfowl season. On my trek through some of their property recently I got a shot of this scene: At first I said, "Snows?" And cuz says "Nope those are Trumpeter Swans" I got a better pic: It is very difficult to tell the difference between Trumpeter and Tundra Swans. This is where my Merlin (Cornell University) Bird watching App came in handy. I hit the sound recording feature and it immediately picked up the vocal for a positive ID. I was pretty pumped and loaded it into my Life List. Tundra Swans are fairly rare. Reportedly, there were only 69 birds left in 1934. Conservation efforts and a surprising finding of a flock in the Yukon have helped the numbers increase. This site gives a bit more info: www.sibleyguides.com/2006/02/distinguishing-trumpeter-and-tundra-swans/

Is it Centralia IL? I have hunted snow geese in that area 3 or 4 times. They have insane bird numbers and everyone in that area is either deer hunter, snow goose hunter or yote hunter. Mix in some good fishing and a huge lake....my kind of people.
But if it is Centralia, MO I have no clue. Sounds like a great opportunity to meet up with some old family.

In the fall we get them on the area lakes by the hundreds, sometime thousands. I have a pair that summers on one of my training ponds. Pain in the ass at times.
