Barely could get any wood split 2 days ago because I was working on a tree at my reduction zone spot. It was rough keeping an eye out for movement yet still get something done.
Well I switch spots this morning and what do ya know another distraction. Right after light there was wave after wave after wave of geese moving about. Pretty soon some started dropping down in the field next to me. That pretty much started a flurry of geese landing out there. And it was group after group till about 11. Sometime around 10 I started noticing a few good sized groups of mallards going in with them also. I'm gonna watch them again tomorrow and make a go on Sat possibly.

They put on a show again this morning. I don't think I saw the same number as yesterday but still saw well over 50 groups in a couple hours time. I only saw 1 duck go with them. I saw 1 leave alone also. But that's just what I could see from 500 plus yards away. Did manage to get some wood split in between rain...

The cranes are back in full force. They roost in the refuge then feed during day. There are tens of thousands are my house feeding right now. Every picked corn field is full.

Think kentucky and Texas have seasons for sandhills. You can also hunt Bobcats in Kentucky, but not here.

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act 1918 offers federal protection to sandhill cranes, meaning it is an offense to kill, capture or injure one without a special license. However, in 16 states across the U.S. hunting sandhill cranes is legal, during a limited hunting season, provided the necessary permit has been issued. Florida sandhill crane populations have additional protection under the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in place since 1974, which safeguards the species from being hunted. birdfact.com/articles/are-sandhill-cranes-endangered#:~:text=Report%20Ad-,Are%20Sandhill%20Cranes%20federally%20protected%3F,one%20without%20a%20special%20license.
