It doesn't get easier it just fades over time. Thoughts are with you. It doesn't get that much easier. I had to put my "one in a lifetime" Springer Spaniel down in 2002 and I still get wet eyes thinking about it.

I'm forcing myself to get back into it

I feel ya. I got 8 in the kennel. I'm forcing myself to get back into it I have one in the house that is 12 yr, 6 months and just got a new one in October that is 2 yr, 6 months old. I've had the Springers live from 9 to 17 years. The 12 1/2 yr old one is getting cataracts and can't see a treat that is tossed her way. The one that passed at 17 was deaf but I have them trained to hand signals so that saved the day for a number of years. When the cataracts got bad she would follow the younger ones around so that worked out well. I have only had to take one in to the vet to have put down and that was the once in a lifetime dog. Damn, it's getting dusty in here again.

Many days we contemplate the cost of a bullet compared to the headache then the switch flips. Nothing like an old dog doing what it loves one more time.
