Ok, he actually called me a worse name not allowed here! I was in the return line at Lowe's to replace a Craftsman tape measure. It only took about 45 minutes, but hey, They did exchange it for me! But, in the process I made a comment to the lady behind the counter that it's crazy how a guy could practically cut a finger trying to get the tape measure removed from the packaging! At that point, some young punk next to me made a comment to his buddy... "Take a real 'doofus' to not figure that one out!" To which I replied, "Sorry A-hole! I must have slept through that course at Purdue!" Nuff about that! In all seriousness, anybody got some great way to remove items like this from the packaging these days?

I think that's the point...
Making it difficult to remove is supposed to help stop shoplifters from popping it out of the package, putting it on their belt and walking out of the store.

3/4 or 1 inch wide I only buy 1 inch they don’t bend near as easy when extended out a ways I’ve always like 30 footers seems like 25 is always short when doing a layout but I use my tape all day long so I’m a bit picky on it
I use tin snips to get those packages open they work well

Purdue? That explains the problem! Lol
A lady at work nearly severed a finger getting kitchen knives out of a package last year. Took 2 surgeries and a steel pin to fix it. She went to ISU.

Shcool of Hard Knox here, I usually just (very forcefully) tear them out of the packing but I don't buy that many so it's been a while. I'm referring to tape measure the packing for broad heads or SD cards and such I use a utility knife.

In order to remove the tape measure from the packaging, I would recommend the following method. Place your thumb and index finger over the hole at the top of the packaging. A very firm grip will be necessary. Then, forcefully beat the tape measure across the forehead of the clerk that called you a doofus until the tape measure separates from the packaging. This may take several attempts, and may require adjusting your grip on the packaging. Repeat until all of the packaging has been removed. You should then be satisfied with your purchase!
