I'm looking for the year of mfr on my Winchester Model 70. Serial number is G223XXXX. The sources that I find on the internet are pretty confusing when it comes to the "G" prefix. I've called the Winchester (Browning) Customer Service line and the hold time is quite long. I'll try them again later but meantime I figured I would post the query here for possible feedback.

Yep. That’s what I saw in that site too. Just tells me to call the number listed. That’s the Browning number I called but didn’t wait. Guess I’ll just have to find a time that I can hang on the line!

I’m not super intent on the exact date but I’d like to be close since I’m wanting to order a trigger upgrade.

I finally got an answer from the Browning/Winchester customer service. The rifle was made in 1998. Some of you may remember that this is the rifle "genesis" double dippped some years ago when he dabbled in the Hydrographics venture. Definitely a sweet rifle: ![](https://i.imgur.com/hzTWyWW.jpg?1) Though the rifle has been quite successful in taking down deer, I really want to reduce the 6.5 lb trigger pull. And I'll top her with some better glass. I needed the Mfr year to order the correct spring/kit. Got one ordered through M-Carbo and we'll see how this project goes.

I bought the McCarbo kit and upgraded my LCP. Huge difference and function is just as before. Dropped the trigger pull quite a bit.

I received the M-Carbo trigger upgrade kit. The original trigger showed 6.5 to 7 lb trigger pull. ![](https://i.imgur.com/8xlPz4Q.jpg) Definitely a difference in springs: ![](https://i.imgur.com/vdUMZdU.jpg) I must say, M-Carbo does a fantastic job with their instructional videos. I just followed along with the advice given and after setting my overtravel, I added a little blue Loc-Tite since I would no longer be using the 2 original upper nuts. I also smoothed the components with some Flitz buffing. ![](https://i.imgur.com/ylWn0gP.jpg) And now I am getting a trigger pull between 2.25 and 2.5 lbs and she breaks like glass: Next, I'll make a decision on which glass to top her!

I got to the indoor range with the Win 70 today. Maximum indoor is 25 yards so that was my target. I topped her with my Vortex Diamondback Tactical, 4-12x40. Shot 4 different flavors of ammo and got the best groups with the Hornady Superperformance, 130 gr, SST! But, I'll say, none of the ammo disappointed me! I settled on my grouping at 1-3/4" low and then held my point of aim at 1-3/4" high to emulate 100 yards. Super pleased with the results and that trigger is like glass! 4 out of 5 shots touching, rested on the Caldwell bag! Now, I can't wait to get down to my property to see how she'll perform on my 100 yard range! Though, I must be getting soft because 15 rounds with the .270 sure put a hurtin' on my shoulder! Sweet results: ![](https://i.imgur.com/Mx4K41I.jpg) Four flavors: ![](https://i.imgur.com/abEopkP.jpg)

Sometimes a good group close will open up at distance and what looked like a horrible group will be better. It's because the bullet hasn't "gone to sleep" yet. Like a top that is first spun, it wobbles but as it slows down a bit it stops wobbling.

Like a top that is first spun, it wobbles but as it slows down a bit it stops wobbling. Well, You called it buddy! I worked my property today. Cut up a few more trees. Set a trail cam. Worked my creek bed over. And then set to dialing in my .270 at 100 yards. At the indoor 25 yard range, the Hornady Superperformance shined. No so today. All about the Hornady Whitetail, with the final 3 shot group, after adjustments, easy MOA! Kind of surprised me and a good lesson for sure! ![](https://i.imgur.com/JLE8m1j.jpg)

Yep. I've shot a 100 yd group and then shot a 300 yd group that was half the size of the 100 yd group. Same ammo...........
