I wasn't going to put in for the squirrel draw ( little over a 3 hour drive ) but I did in Scotts county . I figured private land why not give it a chance . I can bring up to 3 buddies but I don't have their information , So I was wondering on a later date once I get such Information that I can add hunters .

A 3-4 hour drive for a squirrel "I DON'T THINK SO". You can fill the back of your jeep with plenty of dead squirrels a lot closer to home like Jasper-Pulaski or Willow Slough.
But thanks for the invite.

The biggest issue that I run into is the number of hunters , I believe that last year only 60 Squirrels were harvested out of Willow Slough . I'm not sure on the Harvest count at LaSalle FWA which is about a half hour closer to me .

MOSS: that's the 60 reported squirrels, many go undocumented.
jman46151: my thought exactly, with the price of gas the way it is that would be one costly hunt.

Where is the draw hunt for bobcats? That is worth driving for. lol No need for a draw for that either.. "Laws for hunting bobcats in Nebraska. In Nebraska, the bobcat hunting season runs from 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 1 until the last day of February. A valid license, a Fur Harvest permit, and a Habitat Stamp are required." I thought hard about it when I lived there for a winter but I never saw 1 track or hair from a bobcat.

If the squirrels are out at Willow Slough I never seen them and I'm out in the woods sitting on my chair by 4:30 A.M. until about 2:00 p.m. . I hear stories about those critters at willow slough but never seen one . plus I'm camouflaged from head to toe and my chair is camouflaged .

I've squirrel hunted Pulaski a LOT. I've had a few 2 or 3 squirrel outings over the years but the few squirrels that are there can be darned hard to find. It's not like you hear much shooting either. Just way too much hunting pressure to be any good.
I only hunted Jasper once. I covered a lot of ground but never saw a squirrel or any sign of a squirrel. I never heard a shot and nobody I talked to on the way out had anything to show for their efforts. I'm sure you'll find a few if you cover enough ground but it hardly seems worth it.
I would MUCH rather drive the 3 1/2 hours down state to the national forest given the choice. I've had some really good hunting down there.

A little off topic but I've tromped all over Pulaski trying to find a rabbit and I've never seen one. What I wouldn't give for a good place to chase bunnies with my bow. Didn't even buy a license yet this year and I'm not going to unless I somehow find a decent piece of ground to hunt and that doesn't seem very likely.

Aardvarks are all but extinct on public lands. That's why the ant problem has gotten totally out of hand!
Adds nothing to this thread, but at least I got it off my chest!

Aardvark are slightly more numerous at Pulaski fwa than rabbits. The aardvark population is nearly on par with that of the grey and fox squirrel. I expect Indiana DNR will soon offer the aardvark tag and habitat stamp.
