Dogwoods are out in Terre Haute. I couldn't believe my eyes. And the invasive honeysuckle is greening up. This is crazy! Pretty sure what you are seeing is not Dogwoods blooming, but Bradford pear trees a nasty invasive tree that is taking over our natural forest, yes they are pretty for a short while,,,,,,,but.

I am well familiar with the invasive pears. I had them on my Parke County place and had a hell of a time with them. That is not what these are - i will try to post a picture of a small one near me.

Not only the Southern part of the state. 77 on Tuesday, 28 last night and high on this coming Monday is supposed to be 34 with snow and a low of 27. Out in the rural areas expect the lows to be 2-4 degrees lower.

Same to the west. Off and on snow, sometimes very low visibility. We planned accordingly, and went to Sugar Camp Days at Bendix Woods County park on Saturday! Was a bit windy, but temps 20deg warmer.

The year my daughter's class went to the Sugar Bush the sap season was over for about 3 weeks. They had to borrow sap to process. All was good though as we got pancakes with hot syurp right out of the evaporator. Best field trip ever.

All was good though as we got pancakes with hot syurp right out of the evaporator. Best field trip ever. Low production this year as well. 45gal made, typical 90-100 they said. We had a maple hotdog, and maple popcorn. The popcorn was outstanding!

My Amish supplier called, so I'm going to get what I ordered last year. I don't want to stop ordering because once I stop getting it I may have a hard time getting it in the future, so I order 1 gallon in 1/2 gallon jugs. He said that while the season was longer, they seemed to get less sap this year. I'll get details when I pick the syrup up. I normally bring them a few packages of deer sticks, so it's not a buy and run.
The first year I bought syrup from them it was thru another Amish friend that told me to call him. When I went to pick up the syrup I brought them some deer sausage and deer sticks. When I handed them the bag, they looked at me like I was weird. (I guess they never had an "Englishman" do that.) After that first year, I seem to be treated a wee bit differently and I always bring them something. They'll have me go into the sugar shack while we talk, they show me their new equipment, their production records that they write on the back of the big sliding door, etc.
