Looking at the radar, the band of lake effect is moving to the East. I doubt that we will get more snow after an hour or so from now. South Bend might get some until around 5pm or so, but I doubt it will amount to much. I just shoveled 6"-7" off the back porch, the last 1/2" or so is ice where the snow that came down last week froze to the porch, then the dogs walking on it made it even bumpier. Hopefully the sun will come out next week and melt it. If I have to get the leaf blower out and blow all the loose white snow off of it I will. Then the sun on the dark boards will take care of the ice.
After this storm is over and the wind stops moving the snow I'll bring the tractor with the FEL over here and clear the drifts from the driveway.
Looking at the long range forecast, it looks like Feb will be mostly in the 30's and 40's, so I doubt that we will have to deal with "winter" for much longer.
Currently 16°F and it won't get much warmer all weekend. Up here, Monday starts the warm-up.
Next year I will listen to my gut and put the snow thrower on the garden tractor right after Thanksgiving even if it's in the 60's. The grass won't need to be mowed after that, and if it does, then it can just wait until the Spring.

They let me close up and leave work early, at my discretion. My wife said almost a foot fell since I left for work, and wind was picking up. So I packed up at the 5 hour mark, and just made it home. With anything less than a full size 4WD, one would be in trouble on our east/west road. Some really bad drifts now.

We were supposed to get 1"-3", but got closer to 4". I left at 1:00 a.m. and plowed/salted until 2:00 p.m. Just when we thought it was time to go home, more businesses would call in. It was exhausting after only getting maybe 3hrs sleep, and that's combined with being out three consecutive nights last weekend. Just like with hangovers, the older you get the harder it is to recover from lost sleep.
On the bright side, I am retired from professional snow removal after today. I start a new job Monday and the company does not own one damn plow truck! Now I can get back to plowing my own driveway and some of the neighbors' with my ATV.

I've been keeping in touch with my family there in LaPorte and Michigan City. What a mess. I don't envy y'all one bit and I don't miss living in LaPorte! My brother sent this pic this afternoon and said, No hot tub tonight!

When I got home from work, I had intentions of running the snow blower around a little to open some paths. After a bite to eat, I faded away on the couch for a few hours. The long week of hard work, with many hours outside in the bitter cold, had taken its toll on me. Unfortunately, it ended up being a long nap, as I was up at 1am ready to go.🙄 So I cut some paths, then did some more, then did a little at the neighbors, then decided to get out the tractor. I got tired of plowing backwards again, so I switched the plow to the bucket. I made up a mount over the summer, but kinda forgot about it. So in the middle of a snowstorm, at 3am, I'm digging stuff out and setting it up. After some work, I can now say I have hit the Holy grail. Plowing forward, angle either direction to wind row the snow, and being able to keep the snow piles going higher and higher is the cats meow. So, here it is almost 7am, and I'm done for now. Time for bed. Pictures after I recover in a day or two. 🤣
