The heck with windchill, here it's the actual temp. I didn't get warmer than 6°F today, and I've been below 20°F since 1am Friday morning with a low of -14.2°F. Tomorrow isn't supposed to be much better than today. I went to fill up the PU truck yesterday with diesel and DEF from the truck stop. They put in all new pumps and the DEF pumps were frozen solid, and the diesel hoses were so stiff that they wouldn't bend. I had to pull my truck forward and back until it was just in the right spot for me to get the diesel nozzle in the filler tube. I still had little under 1/2 tank left, but I don't like to let it get low during cold weather. LOL, I Know you all are not used to this weather, but this is every winter ordeal up here. I'm not complaining one bit about a few days of highs below 0. On a normal winter we will have a 2-3 week stretch of below 0 highs. My son has had several school days where he had to ride the bus with temps in the -30's. Loggers leave their equipment running 24/7, afraid it may not start back up if they shut them off. Again, not poking fun, it's just that I chuckle when I hear friends and family from down south complaining about -0 temps and 4-5 inches of snow, because I know to the southern states it IS a big deal. The cold isn't that bad once you get used to it. The issue for me at least this year is that we went from 30's and 40's above to below zero in a few days. Now with the wind, it's even worse. It wouldn't be bad if the wind would lay down. It's worse here in Plymouth for me because there are no trees to break the wind. If the house was in the middle of the woods it wouldn't be so bad. Even a couple of inches of snow with wind will result in a 3'-4' drift between the house and pole barn. A snow fence won't really help the way the place is laid out, It just moves the drift over a few feet North or South depending on the direction the wind is blowing. Driveway goes due East/West, pole barn is 50'-60' due South of the house. Garage doors on the house face South, pole barn doors face North.

There is a stretch of road that had about 450 acres of field on the west side. The plows came through south and piled snow up on the west side. As winter goes on that pile keeps getting higher and generally every day it drifts over, often a car or truck stuck somewhere in the mess. I never understood why the plow drivers did not push the snow to the east side. With the new houses going it may not drift as bad.

Lets see, that puts me in the 8"-12" range. I bet I would be lucky to see 1"-3" then. Deadeer is in the 12"-18" area. So he'd see 2"-4"?

Wooohooooo. NOT! Lol.
At least most of the crappy weather events have been at end of the weeks. So a little extra clean up time and off work over the weekends.

Numbers all over the place right now for us. Seeing 6-14" thru Sat pm. But, saying some serious blowing and drifting with travel being very hard to impossible. Sounds fun. Once again, I'll be the only soul at work Friday, as it's become a regular occurence others will be unable to work. Even though I live the farthest and go thru the most open areas that drifting effects, I am still able to be "that guy" that risks life and limb to keep the doors open. HA

HA I know that feeling, at least I used to. I drove from Huntertown to Huntington. Even though I was a CNC Programmer I would dress to run a machine because it was a ghost town when I got there. I knew my boss would be calling for me to help out production because of all the call-ins. For me the last 100 feet coming home were always the worst.

Big low spot where the snow fills in the road. I have nosed my trucks into the drift several times to see the snow at my hood. Makes for a long 4 mile trip around the block to get around it. Worst part is that I get home at midnight, so not another soul around if I get hung up.

Local forecast just updated us to 12-18" and locally even higher under the lake effect band. Saying 2-3" per hour, which is about as good as it gets. With the colder temps this time and fluffy snow, any wind will be catastrophic for visibility. Let's rock. 😝

So far we got 2" from the system snow. Now the lake effect band is setting up good, and it's just about to hit us per the radar.
